tinyskateboard says:
So when you do a drop tuning, how do you adjust your playing and chords? Or do you just play the same and go fot it? I don't really understand the non-open tunings I guess. I play a little slide in open D and G so I sort of understand...but not really.
While GS124 was correct in what he wrote, I don't think he addressed the question. I think tsb is confused about drop tuning and how it relates to playing chords primarily, whether it is open chords or barre chords. From what I understand (someone correct me if I am wrong, I could be way off base and won't take offense in any correction), you don't really use drop tunings and play chords. You
could, sure, but you would have to adjust your finger positions. I suppose you could play barre chords and simply mute the top string, that would work.
One thing that I notice with drop tunings is that power "chords" are now simply the top 3 strings of the guitar, same fret, since the note on the top string (low "E" or "D" or "C", whatever) is now lowered by a whole tone.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I very likely could be here, just going off of what I have thought when I watch people play.
