Not a bad solo you posted, but I couldn't decipher much of the notes under the distortion. You have good technique on the fast runs and the sweeps were good, but I'm not sure if it was the distortion or sloppy playing that made so much noise over top of some parts.
You can definitely alternate pick way faster and better than me however ;)

and about the noise...it wasnt the distortion, it was the recording equipment and the style of recording that i used.

i used the headphone output on my amp(flextone II) and sent it to the usb interface i have on my computer. also i used fruity loops studio, which in my opinion, is made for better use with mics. and recently i found out about "dirty power", which most likely came from the amp cable that my father gave me from like the late 80's(the cable is older than me haha).

as for the crappy playing, when i made that solo it sounded nothing like that. it was SUPER hard and was wayyyy above my playing ability at the time even though I(emphasis) made it. the song was supposed to be completely done around september of 2010(i was playing around 10 months then....i sucked), we didnt finish the song until january of 2011.

between those months i practiced the original solo(and other things) and made many revisions to it to "crop out" the parts that were too hard for me. i came up with what you hear now....still too hard. it was 2:00 in the morning when i recorded that take of the solo(not an excuse...we are energetic people) and i couldnt have been happier to finally get the song over with. btw im talking about the second part being hard...the 1st part that is strictly alternate picking i had down pact and i recorded that about 3 months before the second part that starts with the sweeps(i redid it of course to keep it fresh).

but i didnt wanna do another take since i saw that one to be perfect(not as in how clear the notes are or how correct it was...I personally felt it was perfect). plus i KNEW i couldnt even get remotely close to the one you heard if i was to try it again.

but today i can almost play the solo with ease....almost.

I'm good at sports, but I have never played way above my ability. Always either at my ability or below but never above, because then that WOULD be my ability, and it would mean that I would had gotten better.

this is where i tried to expand my boundaries of playing by stepping out of my "comfort zone" and, like you said, make those parts that were above my ability something that i can actually do from then on out.

Yeah. My imput: "Its Relative". Einstein literally had the answer for everything when he stated his theory of relativity. Everyone is so different, meaning you are a virtuso and have only been a little experience, or you are a virtuoso by experience.

I unfortunately have some skill from a lot of time, patience and experience (10 years). I have dabbled in everything from guitar to tablas, drums to piano. I am no virtuoso nor do I completely understand music theory as a whole. But I feel music. I think above all that is what counts... not years... not knowledge... but relative feeling. Think about.

BTW Congrads on learning those tools of the trade that fast. Learn some jazz harmonies and bossa nova sways and ill recomend you anyday.

@sg17 i was inspired to try to be able to get as much practice in as possible and to become extremely good in little time after i found out that MAB was faster than his teacher after two years of lessons. i dont really know how fast he was back then(he couldve been slow), but i figured i can do the same thing if he can do it.

see, im not the kind of person to really praise people like MAB(who i dont even really like), malmsteen, PG, slash and a lot of other well known guitar gods for being as good and popular as they are. i dont walk around with a " i can do that too" attitude, but all they did to get where they are was simply....practice and dedication. and i plan to do the same.

i cant wait until the day when im considered a virtuoso in the world of music(its obvious what im going for as a guitarist).

also, i have a natural feel for music as well. i realized this a while ago...but back then i thought guitar would be impossible for me to play.

Also, regarding this thread, I think everyone here has their own experience, ability, and style. I don't think it's the destination but the journey anyways. While I may not be totally happy with my playing today, I'm totally happy with the journey that I've been on. I've been playing the the guitar for myself and others for about 35 years! How can I not be happy with that!

If you play and practice for the purpose of competition with others, you will never be satisfied. At least not for that long. In the world of competition, there's always in one way or the other, someone better than you.

In regards to your original point of the thread venom, I should say with all respect I don't find it to be very important. Just play for the love of music and the guitar and you will progress at whatever rate you progress at. I think macandkanga said in the thread (forgot who if I am wrong, sorry) that it is alla bout the journey and I couldn't agree more. If you learn quickly, great. If it takes time, great. Just enjoy playing.
