These are a few of the songs that a cover band I'm auditioning for is currently keeping in their set, and a few of them are some ideas for other songs to put into the set(that I've been thinking up), so please feel free to make some suggestions for some cool 80s hard rock/metal songs that you like on top of voting for the ones that you don't really care for :)
Thanks,

Id have to say the ratt tunes. Probally round and round. I actually preffer ratt over the other groups. And the more i like a group the less i like to hear covers done of their music. |

Ratt - Lay it Down
Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar (Splenda for diabetics) On Me
Those songs don't interest me.
I probably should have also put Enter Sandman. It can be quite monotonous.
But I would MOST like to hear Fade to Black or Photograph.
You should have gave the "other" option though. |

Cover bands are cool man. I used to be in one. We played Judas Priest and Iron Maiden songs. Our lame name was Sector Zero but our fans called us Iron Priest. |

i agree with coleman, cover bands are indeed weak. a couple covers in an original set is all good when the band adds it own flavor but if playing the track note for note is goal why not just put a CD on.. |

uh, I don't mean to be rude, but I didn't ask your opinion on cover bands.
It's a job. That's all.
Quick Edit:
Thanks for the input guys. I'm not looking for suggestions to be voted on though, I just want suggestions in general.
thanks,

you didn't ask for it but you got it (thus is the nature of an open forum)
If you are using your musical skills and getting paid for it then much respect to you. My point is simply this: if you have the time and skill to learn and mimic a song why not spend that time and skill creating something new, its a risk and there is a chance that the audience won't like it but isn't it more rewarding? |

i think cover bands are a good idea. BUt personally when i hear someone doing a jimmy page solo and not doing it note for note i think he shouldnt even bother. I personally dislaike all coverbands. It gives me the impression the artist couldnt write their own materialk so they had to copy othewrs. That is my opinion. |

Harley, I do write my own material, but getting paid and having fun playing on stage in the mean time while putting together my own original band, really beats out "would you like fries with that". |

First of all "weak" is a "weak" word. The 80's called and they want they're word back. Secondly, being in a cover band was one of the greatest experiences of my life. We played at clubs in Hollywood and Santa Monica, big parties and garages. I learned about equipment, staging, and mainly what it's like being in a band that gets gigs and gets paid.
Lastly, if you don't like cover bands, why would you need to comment on them? Don't listen to them, don't be in one, and don't talk about them and your done. Right? Sorry to go off but I hate it when people go on and on about what they DON'T like and why. Who cares. Go to places where you find what you DO like and talk about that. |

^^i use 'weak" sometimes lol.but on a serious note, casey,dont play enter sandman or pour some sugar on me.those songs really dont define the 80's.your doin an 80's cover,so you should do the greatest songs from the 80's,not just the overplayed top40 hits,i would personally slap you if you showed up.for an audition of mine a played those songs,i reccomend ratt round and round.just my 2¢

Also, on Saturday I saw two cover bands: Which one's Pink and Brain Salad. It was fantastic! Brain Salad does ELP covers and they are extremely complicated pieces of music. Which one's Pink does Pink Floyd covers. They sound just like them! I sat front center stage. I will never get to do that with Pink Floyd again. |

@macandkanga maybe not with pink floyd but roger waters is taking the wall on tour for one final time, nick mason will probably appear for a song and there's talk of David Gilmore appearing on a show or two to play the solo to comfortably numb. It's not quite floyd but it's gonna be great.
I'd play fade to black, and on the note of cover bands being weak I think Slash started out doing just covers before guns and roses got going. It's the sort of thing that lets you see how your audience reacts to different styles of music and gets you used to playing on stage. Also if you're just starting out you'll be teching for yourself which is a valuable learning experience. |

in a sense yes. but only the first and last 12-32 bars. and even then being a guitarist i have the freedom to play what ever rhythm and use whatever voicing i want. im mostly talking about combos (without piano) with piano i usually just play the melody. big band is another story im not really into that style much. im not hating on cover bands as far as it being a gig goes. i would do it. im just not 21 and most bars around here wouldn't let me play. i bet it would actually be really fun. i just wouldn't go out of my way to see one. |

@DanielM,
True, but it won't cost 20 bucks for front row center seating, it won't be 10min from my house, it won't be in a small venue with incredible sound,and I won't get to sit and eat a steak dinner while I watch the show!
It would be awesome to see Roger Water though. |

@GShredder
Sandman is from '91.
And... I played what they wanted me to learn regardless of whether or not I like the song.
In any case, I'm pretty sure this thread/poll is done... |
