Hey guys. So, I finally gotta USB recorder connected to my computer all set up - but now it's occured to me that I don't seem to have any software or whatever to record and save what I'm doing.

So what I want from ya is to know if there are any particular sites that would allow me to record myself and save my private files?? Or a software I could use - my old retro computer runs on good ole windows 7 if it matters.

You can download Cubase for free. I'm not sure which ones are compatible with Windows 7. But there are bunch more you can download. Hit up Download.com . It is a great website for finding free stuff to download.

This is me being nice.

Here is Adobe Audition 1.5 - I have been using it for my audio stuff for a while... just not very good at it :-P It's a multi-track software program. Good luck!

What is the firmware (usb) yer using?

I (also , it appears) cast an early-vote for the "pro-sumer" version of Cubase, Cubase-LE(LE=Light Edition).. It will offer you the largest bang for the smallest buck (or no-bucks if its ‘bundled’).
Some will say Audacity or somesuch throwaway (see also Garageband[mac])(+ no offense ya'll)
But at some point you'll likely wanna "up your game" and programs such as Audacity wont teach you the needed skills to ‘get there’, Dig?

Anyways (it being part of my work, lol--and you being a fav poster o’ mine) I would love to help ya out anyway I can.

Lemme know what I can do ;)

I'll second Audacity for the basic stuff. Also, if you've got 20 - 30 quid lying around doing nothing, have a look on e-bay for Cakewalk Guitar Tracks 3. They're onto CGT 4 now so if you're happy to accept yesterdays hero you'll pick it up quite cheap. Mine cost £25 !!!

Thanks so much guys (:

At the moment I'm just downloading nice JustJeff's Adobe Audition and after playing around with that I think I'll check out Cubase and Audacity. I figure it'll be good toplay about with all the different programs to see what I'll like. If I really get into a habbit of this recording thing and I want to upgrade I think I'll buy Cakewalk Guitar Tracks.

And if any of this doesn't work out - I'll go bother Carl =P lol But Carl I can't answer that first question as - at the moment the only thing I know about my first ever usb is that it's a microphone thingy...in my ocmputer. And it looks like a stick....and it smells really really nice. That is all =D

Reaper is by far the best Ive used and its close to free. It doesn't timeout.

For VST effect I use KaramFX for reverb/delay, kjaerhus audio for compression, chorus and MDA for multiband compression on drums.

Ive also used Cubase LE, Acid PRO and Express and Audacity but Reaper is far better.

I bought the Tascam US122, which is ok, but could be better. I also bought the Line6 Guitar Port which is great for direction recording.

For visual VST amps, go for Peavey Revalver. The demo version still works fine.

Or, the SimulAnalog guitar suite is very respectable for a free product.

I've used Cakewalk before and it was pretty good, but don't touch garageband, those are the only two i've used.

lol, garage band.
Good thing we (me and drummer) play on the back porch!

Drummer dude (aka Cheeto dude) has an uncle who works a recording studio. We could professionally record/mix almost anytime free! First we need a bassist and someone needs to get a liscense though...
