I am the same way but I think its hindering me... for the first time this week i learned a handfull of radiohead songs. it was not to difficult to do since I am fairly proficient and I had a friend to show me. I think it showed me alot and I think I am gonna start learning my favorite bands songs.

I said 'sometimes' because I like going through many existing songs by other people, it's relaxing, it helps you excersise your mind, get into the whole timeing thing (especially if you already know what the songs supposed to sound like)and sometimes you'll come across either a new chord, or a different way of making a chord you already knew. I like that, it's so fun. Like taking the wrapping paper off of a suprise present :]
It also helps me write my own songs. Soemtimes I struggle thinking of what chords and notes should go with what. When I look at different songs, I sort of like to steal the next note or one similar for myself. Then I usually have fun editing it with new ones inbetween once I'm into it, so it's not so bad. The way I see it, I'm not exactly just stealing other people's work. I'm just getting inspired and motivated by it. |

Ha I do a lot too actually. But it's no so bad really, change the progression into something else you like after a bit and soon it's nothing alike anymore but I'm still happy with it :) |

I say sometimes. I do lots of covers. I also steal parts of songs to mix in with my own. |

Same here. I've been trying to find some really good riffs and licks I like to incorporate into my playing. Personally, I don't feel bad at all if I steal things. As long as I return them in a fashion that has my own little twist on it haha. |

well actually i capod the 2nd fret, so it was an Amaj and Dmaj7. which is almost the same, just a maj7 instead of a maj9
but im not gonna tell you the rest of the progression, because of its win-ness |

Well, you really just have to get over it dude. Whether you think you make something up or not, whether you came upon it on your own, or copped a lick from someone else, somebody, somewhere, has probably played it too. |
