Hey ya'll. I've been working and designing my own guitar stands. I made this one out of hard maple wood using high end tools in my garage. It's unfinished and just a prototype. I've seen other wood guitar stands but none like this. I'm thinking about selling them.
What do you think? I also don't know how much to sell them for. How much would you pay for this?
Also, notice there are no nails or glue. Just three pieces of wood that fit together.
Thanks |

That's impressive man!! Though, i would be sort of hesitant to put my guitar on it. The only reason is because of that holding fork: I feel like it may be a little flimsy the way it's set up right now. I would say to look into making the holding fork look a little more sturdy.
Of course, maybe staining it to match the color of the guitar... damn I would want one for my Larrivee... though I never put it in a stand cause I've had 2 guitars break on my for being in a stand in a crowded room >. |

Damn! thats very good, but i cant help but feel the maple would be a bit harsh on the guitar. try adding a cushion to it and i'd definately consider buying!
also try alter that design to accommodate possible more than one guitar, then youve got yourself a business! |

Thanks you guys.
I also wanted to add the main difference in this stand among others is that the guitar is held by the fork alone and gravity. My inspiration was my Warlock and flying V guitars. Traditional stands hold the guitar at the bottom and at the back of the neck.
The holding fork actually fits snug in the square hole so once it's in it's tight. That alone with gravity is what holds the guitar safely in place.
I also plan to add stick on velvet on the inner part of the fork and a pad where the back of the body rests. |

jcb said "try adding a cushion to it"
I agree. It should have some cushioning but if you go down that road, don't forget that some types of cushioning can have an adverse effect on the sort of cellulose varnish and paint that is commonly used on modern guitar finishes!
Otherwise, well done. Damn stylish stand! |

Nice! you should definitely patent it.
I would pay about $30 at most.
You should design some for odd guitar shapes. |

I actually like the esign alot, and would consider buying one if you ever produced them. But i also agree with the others, a little padding around the headstock fork wouldn't be a bad idea. And definately apply for a patent if you plan on producing these. |

Hey Mac,
I Like your design alot!
I'm sure you've tested it with your own guitars and I was wondering if it might be just a bit front heavy. would it be a good idea to counterweight the back leg to insure balance? A friend just bought me a wall mount and it uses "keeper rings" to protect against the guitar accidently sliding off the yoke. (see attached photo of instructions). This is something you might add to the design.
Anyway, if you market this little goodie put me on your list of customers, I'll buy one. It's a work of art!

It look's very vertical, like if someone would fart in a room it may fall over. Have you thought of giving a bit more of an angle?
I would love to get one either way so if you start producing them let me know. |

Thanks for all the input guys! I'll answer some questions and comments:
It will hold any single neck guitar that has a headstock wide enough to fit in the fork.
I'll add some padding to the fork and also in the front where the body rests.
Yeah. I think I'll need to give more of an angle to it to insure that it wont fall over. However, it is still pretty sturdy as is!
I'll also take Phips idea of some kind of locking mechanism for the fork.
I'm now in the process of sanding it down and will finish it with multiple layers of Tung oil. I should have it finished sometime next week.
I can't afford to pattent it so I'm just going to have to take my chances. I was laid-off in November and had a temp job that just ended last month.
Some of you said you would pay about 30 bucks for it but it cost 8 bucks a foot for the wood and it's 40 inches tall. I've seen other hand made stands like this go for as much as 500 dollars on the net. I'm not gonna sell them for anything like that though. I just want enough to cover my costs and my time.
When I do come up with a price though I'll definetly give you guys a significant discount!
