HI everyone...

I'm Karthik and I'm from Mumbai(previously Bombay),India.

I was born on 11th Sept. but all you Americans dont hold that against me.

I'm a software engineer and am a complete computer geek.

I'm pretty absent-minded. This one time, I had gone to the loo to take a leak, thinking about something. I went inside, flushed the toilet and came back outside without peeing. And 5 minutes later I'm wondering why I'm feeling the pressure!!

I like to kick cats down the street. I love dogs.

I have five passions in my life - music, music, music, computers and books.(A complete nerd, eh?)

I lost the will to go out drinking though, I'm compelled to stay inside and practice my entire life.

I personally don't care if I make it, I just want to learn music and truly enjoying losing myself in something so interesting.
I've lost the will to attend college this year, as it has nothing to do with music, and I'm cut back from practicing as much as I want to. Though I'm grateful I can at least listen to music whilst doing this work.
I've come to realise that you can think too much.
I often look at random people who pass me by and wonder what their life is like. Perhaps it entertains me, and also keeps me from thinking too much.
I cried wolf too many times just to test another's reactions and regret it to this day. Also why I long to go far off to Uni and be surrounded by masked strangers.
I've gained an obsession with the band "The Seatbelts".
I can easily express myself to my fellow friends and talk in metaphors. Though, when it comes to writing this down for coursework or an exam... I can't. I haven't really got a clue why.

It's not that I won't try. I'm still going to try my hardest to make it, definitely. I've sold many tracks to companies already. Though I'm being aware of the fact it's also possible I might not make it, and I'm preparing for that. But I think to myself; "Why do I really want to learn music?" It's not to achieve a career, it's just because I find it amazing and so interesting. A career is just a bonus to me.

If I don't succeed in the main industry, I'll teach at a Uni or College.

Music will always be in my life.

Jazz, I havent looked at your response to my post the other day until today regarding Yngwie.

1. I said he was the first to "commercialize" sweep picking not the first to do it.
2. He was'nt the first and neither was Frank Gambale. In fact the internet has Frank and Yngwie almost simultaneously popularizing the art in the early to mid 80's. The technique has been around as long as the guitar has. In rock or jazz artist like Ulrich Roth (Scorpions), Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple),Steve Hacket (Genesis) were all doing this in the 70's.
3. If anyone was the first it would be Allan Holdsworth. He's been playing sweep arpegios since the early 70's but is not know for it because of his legato style of sweeping.
4. I saw Yngwie with Steeler in 1983 on TV and recorded it on VHS. I still have it today. He absolutely blew my mind. This was before Gambale ever recorded anything.
5. Alternate picking has been around forever. None of these guys invented this technique.
6. Yngwie is THAT good. I know he's on the popular side of things and he's kind of an ass but he is a great guitar player.

I don't mean to break your balls over this but I'm very passionate about the history of great guitar players. I listen to Gambale way more than i do Malmsteen.

OK. Now back to me. I'm doing my self review now at work. I'm the manager of a call center, accounts receivables, and fulfillment. I only have one person that reports to me but indirect authority over about 20. I mentioned earlier that my favorite thing to do is nothing. Someone who likes to do nothing but manages 20 people in 3 departments has a bit of a problem. I'm not much but I'm all I think about. Now I have to judge mystelf. I know I'm rambling but I'm bored. I think I'll take my pants off and go into my bosses office and ask if there's anything else I could do for him.

Hey soy, I'm learning French too! I even plan to study abroad there (France, that is) for a semester or two.

I like that you brought up movies as well. My favorite movie of all-time friggin' ever is "The Darjeeling Limited." If you haven't seen this movie, I highly suggest you do. I absolutely love it, I can't even explain how much. I like books too!-"A Farewell to Arms" by Ernest Hemingway is probably my favorite. In fact, I like all of his books, check them out!

Well, currently I am taking classical guitar lessons and if I get good enough at that I will study Jazz composition. I hope to get a minor in law and possibly a music attorney. Of course these goals will take some work :P.

I'm going to take up Freerunning for a hobby. It's fun and also good exercise.

I love to take pictures, and I also wouldn't mind designing album covers. I've done so before, but those people didn't make it very far anyway.

I've considered teaching, but I don't really have the time to teach others and myself. Also, people are iffy about what I know only because I'm female. It's a hinderence sometimes.

Jazz, you should definitely watch The Darjeeling Limited. It has an amazing soundtrack, composed primarily of The Kinks and original Indian music. The movies main them is like an eargasm. It also features the song "Where Do You Go To?(My Lovely)" by Peter Sarstedt, especially if you watch The Hotel Chevalier, which is a kind of prologue short-film to the actual movie. The final credits roll with Joe Dassin's Les Champs-Élysées, one of my favorite songs :)

What is freerunning?

Anyone who likes/interested in the delta blues should see the movie Black Snake Moan. Not great, but solid movie. The soundtrack is raw, gritty and fantastic.

@skold: The Dark Knight is up there on my list too...along w/ Shawshank Redemption, Caddyshack, PCU, and Boondock Saints.

Worst movie is The Count of Monte Christo b/c the movie could NEVER to the book justice...my favorite book by the way.

Actually, when I've ran from the cops, it has worked. Just last year some friends and I were vandalizing some stuff during Halloween (TP, Saran Rap, that kind of stuff) and the Sheriff or Sheriff's Deputy showed up (couldn't really see). We evaded them by running through groves and fields for three hours, they just gave up. My other experience with running was just a plain old party that the Sheriff DID show up at: I just kind of disappeared into the woods, and at that time I had a mohawk, so I got the name "Chief Runs-Like-Deer."

And, FYI, most Catholics, including myself, really do enjoy drinking. Some might say too much, but I think it's quite healthy :) My ancestors moved from Normandy up through Britain and into Ireland (they actually stayed in France and Ireland for quite some time) so I'm about as "ethnically" Catholic as you can be. Maybe one of my great great grandfathers was Italian...
