Scalloped frets is basically a regular guitar but you time a little planer and trim away the wood between the frets.

Yeah, you have to put more control in your playing, but the results mean you can go really fast if you're well practiced.

Is that video of Yngwie Malsteem? Scalloped frets are hard to play fast on if you are not used to it.I belive Ritchie Blackmore Started doing it on electric guitar. Medieval lutes had scalloped neck with no frets.

Scalloped frets make it easier to apply vibrato and to bend notes.

Well yeah, because you can press down. Infact, I don;t know why I ever said you can play faster, it doesn't actually make a differance. I missed out the main purpose and worded what I wrote wrongly.

I though with Scalloped necks that it takes very little effort to play . (period for the punctuation impaired)

I was under the impression that a slight tap would make the note fret because with this neck the strings sits very close. you never actual put a finger on a string and contact wood because it's not there anymore. it is really a different way of playing.

Thing about scalloped frets is you've got to be careful not to bend the note unless you really want to so like TC says, it's a different feel and a different way of playing altogether. Not for anyone less that totally brilliant!
