When i tilt my guitar to where the pickups are facing upwards it makes a loud hum. Tilt it back and it goes away. Also when i add a lot of treble to the guitar via my guitar knobs it makes a hum also.

What should i do if i can't afford to have someone look at it? Besides not tilting it upwards and turning up the treble.

Thank you.

Have you checked where the main ground connects to the bridge?
Usually the claw in the back of a Guitar with a whammy.
Not exactaly sure where it connects on a set bridge.

I unknowingly severed it once, it would just randomly hum like crazy if I moved or tilted it.

Could be electrical interference.
Whenever the Vaccum or some other high powered thing runs in my house, my guitar tends to hum abnormaly. Also being close to a TV, Light, cell phone charger, or other electronic device connected to a power outlet causes electrical interference

What type of guitar is it, and how old is it?

My guess from what your saying is it could be grounding or just shielding.

There is a grounding wire that goes form the electronic pot's and is fed to the bridge. you can check out the electronics for a broken ground wire or maybe just a broken solder joint. That could explain it.

If it's shielding it would be likely to be nosier near things that created an electronic field such as old CRT monitors, TV's Speakers, wireless phones etc.

Not sure if that helps

It can be your cables:

If your cable is old/crap/too large,it can pick up signals from higher frequency sources (radio/police) also if its rolled up,it can cause that effect too.

If your pickups are old and the wiring is donebad on your guitar,ir can cause hum,if your house/guitar/cable is not properly grounded,it can cause hum,if you have single coil pickups and drive it too much/use too much treble,it will cause noise

Damn guitars! lol

or you should check to see if the fan or lights are on above you. My pickups get some of the signal from those and they are humbuckers, so if you have SC's they'll usually be doubly bad about hum.

i have dimarzio Hm 9 pickup i mainly use. i think thats it. And my cable is a gold shielded new 10 foot cable. i think i need to take it apart and look at the wiring. I am soooo lazy.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your responces.

The same goes for a TV or Computer. My guitar hums big time around my computer.

so buddy to help isolate the problem see if you can test out your setup with a friends guitar. keep every thing the same. If you still have the noise then it's not the guitar.

If it's not the guitar, then start swamping parts out like cords amps etc until you find the problem.

The problem was my guitar. New guitar fixed the problem.
