Yngwie Malmsteen; Cool Stuff!

I love this one, but I cannot stand his cocky personality. So even though he's a good performer and his playing compliments the orchestra - he's a jerk.

To be honest jazzy,I think his cocky persona
is what makes him an entertainer. Just think,he
comes from the 80's,the era of big partys,big hair
big solos,and big egos.He also has that,rigid jaded
classical musician thing,where he must be uppity a focused
to perform all his pieces.
mix those together,and you get a cocky,rigid,showman.

But if you look past the man,and listen too the music,you
will be awestruck.

Look at Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,He is a legend among
musicians,But if you read the history books,you would
find out,that he was an arrogant,snide,pampered
man with no compassion for others. Yet we look past that
and enjoy the music for the music.

Music isnt about the visual aspect of it,the person
playing and such,its about the pleasing vibrations
that hit your ears.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree with you man. And I love Mozart for his crude attitude and hilarious underground compositions... but I think it's just preference... As I said, he's stuff is great, but he himself doesn't interest me. No one needs to be cocky, I just basically prefer modest people. Just the way I am.

I like people like kurt cobain and brad nowell for
ther modesty in music. They show good personas
with great music.

On the other hand,people like Axl rose,nikki sixx,bono
possibly ted nugent,show arrogance in there glory,which
I distasteful. So you are correct,it is personal preference
which is a good thing.

Malmsteen is a great musician, But like Jazz said, he's arrogant. And to me, knowing that a certain musician is arrogant/proud just makes me not want to listen to that musicians music. Plus all of Malmsteen's music sounds the same to me.

Love Yngwie. Yes he is arrogant but who cares! I don't know him personally. Woody Allen married his stepdaughter. I still love his movies from the seventies. Who knows what we don't know about other artists. I just care about their work. Just sayin.

Apparently Mozart taking other peoples motifs and improvising around them when sat in front of their sheet music instead of playing their tunes was because he had a great musical ear and improvisation skills and very poor sight reading.

So he would start of their first motif and then go off and do his own thing instead of showing his lack of skill at what a lot of the court composers would have considered a rudimentary skill.

Now if you want arrogant look to Wagner (although to be fair he was a genius)

I hate malmsteen, and I've had this conversation before. So I'll reiterate:

He has great technique, and he has great speed... but that's it.


In this video, I personally hate his tone. I think it's dull, lacks body, and falls flat when playing with the rest of the orchestra.

My stupid opinion is that you can play flawlessly and with as much skill or speed as anybnody else and still that alone will NOT make you a good song writter.

That was surprisingly bland. I was excited for some new Yngwie material, but that was... well, bland and pretty boring.

I agree with Jazz, in that I am often to perturbed by Yngwie's arrogance to appreciate watching him live. While he is a tremendous guitar player, he is not much more than a just mediocre composer with unorigional ideas. Sure he was the forefront of Neoclassical shred, but Neoclassical in itself is nothing more than tranposing Classical Music from it's original state.

Don't get me wrong, I love Neoclassical music as much as the next guy, I just think it is very bland and a curtain for guitarists who lack the raw ability to compose music themselves, to hide their misgivings.

It is rare for a true gem of Neoclassical greatness to apprehend my senses. Older Yngwie stuff used to do that. However, everything and everyone sounds the same nowadays. It is an aging genre that needs to fast be reinvented or fall to the same fate as '80's hair metal; if it hasn't already.

Sorry for the essay, I was just really dissappointed and let down by that video... I expected much, much more.
