Guitar Pro 5

Has anyone ever bought the program "Guitar Pro 5"? If so, would you reccomend it to write music?

Naa I dont think so, I only use it to take out a song or two, there are better programs for song writing

I didn't "buy" it, but I "have" it lol. I think its pretty good for writing music. It's midi-based though, so you can't record audio on it. I find it useful for learning songs, by downloading the guitar pro tab from www.911tabs.com, and also for making backing tracks. Slightly confusing user interface at first, but once you get used to it you'll be flying.

Yeah, I didn't buy it either, but I have it, too. I don't know, maybe it was my computer but I never could use it right, and if you make a mistake, you have to go all the way back to fix it while writing music, so I wouldn't recomend it.
And yeah, tAUG, what would you recomend to us about writing music.

i like guitar pro a lot , i find it quite easy to work with actually:D

its a good program to write music, but like everything, its better to write songs without this kind of help. it helps alot on finding scales and all thaat stuff but for me its hard to write rithms on it.....

I guess I wasn't clear enough. I meant, if you make a mistake in writing the notes in the begining of the song, or just wanna change the begining for any reason, you have to delete every note that you wrote after it to make that change. It could also be the copy of Guitar Pro 5 I was using, cause it was a pirate copy, and someone must have tried to change it's coding, and caused some defects. It's better if you would coment about this(or anyone that uses this program).

I have the program and I know what you are talking about. But what I do to avoid starting over is I just copy the reast of the song after the mistake. Then I open a new one and fix the first part then paste the rest. Easy and it saves loads of time.

@ everyone else guitar pro 5 is good for writing music but I also had a program called "Band in a box" you should check that out I believe that is better for writting music. But it is a bit more complex tho.

i don't get it,if you make a mistake you just correct it or delete the bar you're working at and make the bar again? you never have to start over totally?

I don't know, I used it for a very short time, cause my computer never had a lot of RAM, so. . . sometimes it showed me this warning sign saying I have to close the application.

Well the one I have if you make a mistake in the middle or you dont like that part you cant delete the bar you have to fill it in with something. So if you dont want a part in the song and you delete it the bar is still there but with no notes in it. Well maybe there is a way to do it but I dont know how. And the same thing with on the end if you make an extra bar then I dont know how or if you can get rid of it.

@mici , probably with the RSE installed , i disable it because it used too much Ram indeed , doesn't make it sound that much better and takes more of your processor and time

If you are only looking for an audio sketchpad, I find ableton live to be great for songwriting. I can just record all the snippets of the song (verse, chorus, brigde, solo...) and then play them back in any order perfectly synched.

@mightydave and Mici em.. Use cubase for song writing, quite difficult to learn how to use it, but give it a few hours and you'll get in to it

But verywell that depends what kinds of music you want to write. Guitar pro works for some needs but if you record your own music etc you should use programs like cubase

@tAUG isn't cubase more like recording music? for just writing music I think Guitar Pro serves the needs , or is cubase more?

Cubase is easy for drums... and you can score on it.

Just recently starting using Guitar Pro 5... it's quite good with the RSE's... I highly reccomend it, but I think it takes some getting used to.

I reckon you'd be able to use it to write full songs though (minus vocals, of course) in a short while, so go for it.

@Doz , sure you can write vocals in it... but it will sound midi again offcourse , don't really dig the RSE's too much though

...whu? How are they vocals? Or do you just mean that you can write the melody? If so, then yeah... I know, and although none of the instruments are that great (even with the real sound plugins), just a midi vocal line would be horrible.

just write the melody yes , and yes it's still all midi :)

I might start doing, but it'll probably be muted most of the time, unless I need to remind myself.

@mightydave Well I as I said it kind of depends what you want to do. Acoording to myself there are no better way of writing music than to make up a cool riff, recording it into cubase and adding drums, composing a bass backing and start "writing music" :)

guitar Pro is a great program, it takes a little to get used to it but once you do, you'll be able to "write" or transcribe music into it.

Can anyone help me here? I want to record a song with the RSE. I don't want to export the file as MIDI. I would want my song to be in wave or mp3 using RSE sound modules.

Isn't there an export option? I'm sure there is and I've used it. Can't remember where abouts though - have a look round.
