George Steinbrenner... Died!

It has been reported that George Steinbrenner age 80 (july 4) died at 6:30 eastern time. Amazing and hard to believe. Easily one of the most if not the most influencial owners in baseball... He did so much with the yankees and never took anything short of success...

and ruined the game in the process ...

WOH. WOH. WOH. WOH. how?

Tell me how a team like Kansas City can compete in this inflated market now when their entire team makes about the same as the left half of the Yankees IF.

Economics. New York City is and has been for a long time one of the most expensive places to live in the country. If you add up all the expenses they have as an orginazation, such as revenue sharing, you will understand why their players get paid more and why the Yankess need to pay more for players to make it financialy in the MLB. If the Yankees had a long term record like the Royals, they simply would have gone out of business.

George was simply a better business man than most. He understood it takes money to make money. It takes spending the right amount of money in the right places for the right people. If your good enough and smart enough to do this you can make more money and spend more money. And if you think PROFESSIONAL sports is not a business then think again.

I definetly give props to the 03 Marlins for beating the Yanks in the series though. But where are the Marlins in October since?

and its not like jeter makes 10m a year (lets say) the tax in nyc, nystate, federal tax blah blah goes up to taking about 55% of your income.

The yankees are always consitantly there and not only with the money, he didnt accept anything but complete success and was a hard ass mthrfker about it

George is a better businessman than most, no doubt. Honestly my problem is really with MLB and not as much with Steinbrenner. The lack of a cap makes it so that the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor. You ever see how those teams spend the revenue sharing? On scouting. Because it is the ONLY way they can get an edge over teams that simply buy championships. They try their best to develop talent and hope it develops quickly and they get what they can before the players inevitably leave. This isn't a good thing for baseball.

And don't give me economics of living in NYC vs other places. When you make millions, it is pretty easy to live a nice life.



Actually, it is like he makes 10mil a year, lol. His salaray for 2010 is $22,600,000. Even if taxes leave him with just 45% of that salary, he is bringing home $10.2 million.

Remember EMB, not everyone here is from the US! Most of the world doesn't know who he is, he is primarily an American figure.

There's no issue. Just my opinion. It is called The Guitar Forum after all. Like you said btimm, people from other countries aren't always gonna know what we're talking about if it is non-guitar related American stuff. But maybe they do know or at least want to know music related topics.

Again, just my opinion.

Almost In every forum on every "genre" have a section where people can speak about other issues than sites primary "goal". I think that AGG have a most friendly community of thousands sites alike, and its cause of that we grown to be a big "family" and many of us formed great friendships in this forum. I strongly think that if we were "strictly" guitar oriented threads, this kind of community never could formed to form as it is now.

This is general chat section and if its disturb someone that there are threads that do not have guitar oriented material, dont read it, dont reply it. I know few here that do not take a part on chats without musical content and respect to them, but also respect to those who do.

If this forum someday form to be a guitar,music,guitar,music without any other aspects of life to talk, think, laugh, to learn and to grow internally. Im outta here.
