How important is Perfect Pitch

Just got this lesson course on how to get a Perfect pitch for music and would just like to hear some of your views regarding this technique and how much will it actually help in overall?

perfect pitch? its natural you either have it or you dont, you can have good relative pitch but perfect pitch is natural. its where you play a note and know exactly what note it is. to enforce relative pitch you dont need a course all they do is send you tuning keys just play an e over your guitar and remember that notes an e... thats how i tune... by ear...

however having good relative pitch is important. and i wouldnt take any course on it but id definatly just work it out.

and to 'reinforce relative pitch' simply practice diatonic intervals, over and over and over and again. and then some.

In the same way you learn the sound of each note, previous to playing it, through countless hours of running scales and such; you will learn , your intervals, starting 1s - 2nd , and extending throughout the wealth of intervalic relationships, through countless hours of playing diatonic guessing games w/ yourself re: 3rds(1+3) 6ths(1+6)and the like.


(then you'll envy the rare 1% of our population born with perfect pitch)lol

EMB5409 What exactualy do you tune your E to?

what do you mean?

i mean when im playing a gig or i dont have my tuner and need to quickly tune i know the pitch my e string should be at to be an on pitch e. and after that i know how the b g d a e should be after that. ive just trained my ear to do it. given i may be sharp or flat on my high e (first string i tune) so given if thats lets say slightly sharp the rest will be slightly sharp, but the guitar will sound in tune and i feel it is quite good if im on the go and dont have my pedalboard (tuner)

An easy way to tune things by ear is play the note of the string you want to tune on another string (that is, if the OTHER string is IN tune). Then, just tune until it sounds right. For example, to tune your low E, you can play the 7th fret on the A string, because it's also an E note. Anyway though, can someone describe to me what perfect pitch IS exactly? I think I have an idea, but I don't really get it.

@EMB5490 you can learn perfect pitch, i got a 9 hour course on doing so called "Perfect Pitch super COurse" but i think learning relative pitch would be better for starters?

ugh, no you cant learn perfect pitch, heres a good example of a guy with perfect pitch hes the creepy british guy next to the piano...they say it at 2:00




just because some course looking to get money and attention says you can doesnt mean its true. its impossible to learn perfect pitch when youre not born with it...basically most of them just send you a tuning key and puting it next to your ear.

as ive said i can get good relative pitch, but youre born with the amazing talent and gift of perfect pitch.

Well, it is possible to train your ears to a level where you actually have the same hearing skills as a perfect pitch-born. Although, I honestly don't think it can be done only with a 9-hour super course...
Then again, it would be amazing if you proved me wrong!

Dude you're getting ripped off,if such thing existed then we all would have perfect pitch and we would be super awesome musicians,but then no-one would be super awesome

Better invest that time and money on something practical and real,like interval training or cooking lessons

I have perfect pitch and I can say it doesnt help much. I still have to continue learning theory and practice. It almost hurts me in some ways because I'm not always motivated to learn. If you hear a note and know what it is but not know where it is on the guitar it doesnt do ya any good.

prove it. post a video of you naming what notes someone else played on a keyboard...

i dissagree. if i could perfectly tell what chord was being played by ear without anything else it would help me a lot

what he means is that,even if you are born with perfect pitch...you still have to study the notes,scales,intervals etc..you are not born knowing music you know..

oh yeah true thats a given, you cant just wake up and know an e is an e. but once you have that knowledge your born with a gift of perfect pitch if you have it

I really dont need to prove it nor do I have the time to post a video with someonelse hitting a key on a piano.

I'll tell you what though. I'm at work in a corporate office with no musical devices at hand. Why dont you post an mp3 of a note or a chord and I'll post what it is.

Yeah, it does help a lot when I want to learn songs but that's only because I have learned how to play the guitar and studied theory. I have the physical ability to play chords, scales, etc. I believe my 3 1/2 year old daughter has perfect pitch because she can hear songs from her Disney movies she likes and sing them in perfect pitch but she cant play the guitar for sh*t because she hasnt learned to play it.

I actually didnt know I had this until I was a teenager. When I was a kid my fater would play the piano and would play all of these New Orleans blues songs. I asked him where he learned how to play them and he said "I dont know. When I sit down at the piano I hear the song in my head and I just figure it out and play". That's how I started with the guitar.

You're right though. Sometimes when you have a gift youve always had, you dont know how to appreciate it. Einstein didnt know he was a genius until people told him he was!

yeah im just suspect on anyone who says anytyhing over the interwebs... i could say im riding the tour de france! lol

but its certainly really cool uk and gives you a leg up on other musicians from the start
