I have listened to him for years, but never actually seen him play. The part from 3:08 - 3:54, I don't even know how he would even think to do something like that with the guitar. It's flat out amazing. The whole song is obviously beautiful and fantastic song writing.

I like listening to him, but I CANNOT stand watching him, just the way he strolls around the stage like a homo person completely puts me off the music

True bodom, however you can't control feeling. When you play with feeling, im sure you unconscienciously make some odd movements/faces. Everyone does.

What your saying is kinda like telling Hellen Keller (a woman who happened to be deaf, mute, and blind poor thing) she could communicate without looking like a moron.

i was lucky enough to see Vai when he was a part of Zappa's touring band..
he continues to amaze me

i bought the dvd in question and gotta laugh at the hubbub above, the guy is passionate and moving/being-moved not standing motionless like some Pettruci-esque "shredder" staring at the fretboard..he's making great music entertaining
btw
the DVD Sound Theories (w/ Orchestra) is a bit "better" (relatively speaking) if not just for the Zappa-esgue Scores he's written for specifically FOR Orchestra.

RAWK!
