I take a cleaning cloth and wipe down both sides of the strings. I also wipe down the frets, fretboard, pickups, neck, headstock, tuners, bridge, whammy bar, etc.
I basically wipe down everything with a soft cloth. Or a clean sock. |

I've had that problem, best way to remedy a quick fix is to get a rag and put it under the strings by the pickups and go back and forth the length of the fretboard pulling up slightly
it does affect your sound quite a bit too, it can make a string warble and sound bad.
best course of action is to buy new strings though |

Best thing is to just change the strings imo. And I'm pretty sure thats not crud dude. It's rust. |

no its crud. unless the strings are years old and you left it in the rain. its the oils of your hand from the fingerboard and your fingers on the strings. change the strings, but wipe down the fretboard. get all the crap off it. |

5 dollars, clean crispy strings. I usually change my strings every 2 weeks, so the sound remains consistant. |
