Well, thats mostly subjective, but try to listen ALL of those styles, recognize its differences, and analyze them, there are some obvious differences betwen styles,For Example Latin Salsa To Prog Metal,But there are others that are harder,For Example Acid Jazz To Experimental Jazz |

I would say to listen to as many artists from that genre as you and find yourself a niche in whatever genre is you are listening to. Next, you should research common scales and chords for that genre.
You can call yourself whatever you want, but ultimatly your playing is what people will hear...So just let your playing talk for you. |

Every style of music has its icon. For blues, I would suggest looking at music by B.B. King ( I get to see him Oct. 4th!!!! ). He pioneered a lot of what you hear in blues music today.
If you want Jazz, talk to JazzMaverick. I'm sure she knows who fronts most of that style :-P
Rock... take a look at people like Hendrix, Van Halen, etc.
Find the icons that pioneer that style and listen to their music. See how they play. That will give you a good idea of what to expect in that genre of music. |

Jeff - Lucky! I hope you have a great time! Take pictures! :D
Blues, I'd look at the 3 kings (BB, Albert & Freddie) along with Albert Collins.
To get an idea of Jazz; Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Wes Montgomery, Pat Metheny, John McLaughlin and so on...
Rock; Pink Floyd, Incubus, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Yardbirds, etc.
Metal; Helloween, Symphony X, Arch Enemy, Bal-Sagoth, Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Iron Maiden, Power Quest... and so on...
New Age: Andy McKee, Antoine DuFour, Shunga Jung, Don Ross, Eric Mongrain.
I could keep going but you sound like you're more into the rock side. Hope this random list helped you grasp an idea of some of the genres that are out in this versitile world. |

Well, there's no point in listing every single band at this time... I'm just giving him the basic examples of the original genres... it's up to him to decide if he likes it or not.
Power Quest are pretty awesome, I definitely reccommend that you check them out. |

one way 2 get a real bluesy sound is 2 play blues scales, they have the flatted 5th which sound very bluesy, and minor pentatonic scales with that flatted 5th that sounds great,i,m a metal player but i know the theory behind blues, and classical as well,so try it it sounds kewll, |
