My 15 Watt practice amp(my only amp)

Okay guys, I used my 15 watt practice amp during our first practice...I was about 4 feet from the massive drumset. I have found out that at 5, yes 5, on the master volume control my amp is lound enough to overtake the drums! which brings me to my next thingy, anyone got suggestions about a good sized and good quality rock amp that doesn't break the bank?

why are you so surprised, I play with a band and I use 15 watts amp for practice and it can get louder than the drums..

i Dont know what happens,but when i practice i need tu turn the volume way up to almost the top,maybe the way TOO loud? anyways,a good sized,valve amp,KILLER TONE,air moving amp,and as cheap as you can go,thaat would be the Line 6 Bogner

I've heard of these Bogners, the guy I bought my guitar from had one, he said it was pretty good, thanks for reminding me about that :)

because I haven't really ever had to have my amp up against drums, I've usually had to play out of a PA.

man try out some amps at guitar center you're price range could almost get you an entry level tube half stack or 2x12. Like someone once said:

"Once you go tube you never go back." Leads on a tube amp are just way better but if you wanna go solid state the other members had some good suggestions.

I recommend Crate or Roland for solid state.

yeah with that budget you have plenty of option, id try every amp i could until i found the one that was just right.

anyone ever tried a B52 AT? I have but I can't really say because I only used it for about 2 hours and never really got the chance to explore! also, a Line 6 Spider III 120 Watt is around $330 and is very convincing to me as well, but the B-52 is $360, I'm just not sure about the B-52's reliablilty...

that B52 AT sounds convincing to me..

'Case211 I don't know I just tried one, behringer GM108, but that's not the model that you need, but there are some other models you can check them out. league is right why don't you get tube?

I definitely want to go tube, but I'm not sure about the realiability aspect of things with the B-52. Even though I'm not a fan of modelers, I was reading up on the Spider III's and I'm considering trying them out as well.
So for right now, the B-52 is leading but not by much...

ive played a spider III half stack and the sound is pretty good, and the effects are fun to play with.

i'm with ya on about 70% of that (i have a Crate 2x12 , a fender twin, and a few Roland's...)
i love the SS Roland btw ..

anyways .. i play a lot of gigs; i have for over 30 years and i will tell you straight up that if you aint at some HUGE outdoor event more than 50watts and one 12" is overkill provided the sound man isn't drunk and the monitors are all working and plentiful(the previously stated stuff is rare)

Ive played the Bijou (famous theater here)
and the tiniest tiny dives around

in both cases (and all venues in-between) Ive never need (used, yes, but VERY rarely) more than the aforementioned 50watt/12"
the rest is just garnish and posturing

....or like the Twin .. a thing of beauty i [play at home/studio/rec/practice

I've been doing my shopping around online and reading all kinds of arguements against amp's and their RMS ratings. Mainly amptone.com, a great site I might add, argues that for a tube amp to get natural saturation at the power tubes, it would basically have to be cranked. I've looked at all the amps I've wanted, and I don't think that a half stack, no matter how sexy, sweet, powerful, and just plain awesome they look, would really be nescessary. I definitely agree on the 50 Watt 112, because I played a 100 Watt 212 and it was just too freakin loud.
Thanks for the input too, I've never actually talked with someone who's gigged large and small venues.

I've recently come to terms with myself that even as a solid state modeler, Line6 Spider III sound pretty amazing. I played a Jackson V(sadly not the Rhoads V) through the 75 Watt Spider III about 2 weeks ago and I thought the thing sounded amazing. I had always thought that the POD and anything marked with Line 6 was going to suck for the sound quality...I got a pleasant surprise by playing out of a POD and then a few weeks later playing out of the aforementioned Spider III. I have found that Line 6 just has a bad rap...

Yeah i my band uses 2 spider III 150 half stacks and they sound pretty good live i was suprised the first time i heard them because i had heard the stories about Line 6
