Bob Marley's guitar solos were great. His lyrics are also among the best of any I've heard. |

ill admit that this thread is kind of pointless, and probably about thirty years too late. but bob marley is the MAN.
saying his songs all sound the same is like taking a few glances at different books and saying they all have the same plot. you have to understand that the style of music he played, was fitting for his time and location. reggae is a vast and unique genre of music, and bob marley was one of the principal innovators of the style. i'll admit, bob marley is an acquired taste, it took me some time to get into him, but he has such a groove to his style. he's definitely one of the most influential guitar players to have ever existed, and his lyrics have meanings that a lot of modern artists have trouble providing. |

R.I.P. Bob.
One of the most influential musicians I've ever heard and loved. I've seen The Wailers live and it was the second best show I've ever been to. I wish Bob could have been there but in spirit he was and I'll see them the next time they come to town and the next time. I could never get tired of his songs that "sound the same", because they inspire me and my dub raggae band would most likely not exist if not for him. His music literally changed my life. |

It's not very often that you have an artist or musican that defines a musician genre. Bob Marley does that.
If a kid walks up to me on the street and ask's wat is reggae or ska I would hand him (or tell him to download it him self) some Marley tunes.

"The tears in my eyes burn while im waiting while im waiting for my turn!"-Bob Marley
"Waiting in Vein" Relates to a girl I know. That song hits me deeper than any other song ive EVER HEARD. Something about the lyrics just hits it perfectly. |

i dont look at him like a great guitar player, that space is designed for guys like hendrix, page, morello, etc. but he was indeed one of the best reggae exposers all-time, and thats without taking care of lookin at the public figure he was, and the messages his songs gave to the world. a freedom seeker.
besides he smoked pot. |

His musical, political, and social impact seemed to be combined into one entity. I think that's why he's such a huge figure in global culture. |

yeah, but bob marley was a great guitar player, you have to remember that. people don't often look at him as a guitar player, but he was, and he was incredible at it. he could do twenty minute solos just as easy as hendrix.
and to put morello in that list before marley doesnt seem fair. there's no comparison between the styles, though morello took influence from bob marley.
EDIT: Reviewing my previous posts, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm a little biased. I think it's safe to say I'm a Bob Marley fan. |
