I would like to have some input because I would like to add a guitar, other than a Strat style, for my next guitar.
These are the choices that I have broken them down to, I really want to have some opinions and feedback.
I am aware that my ears are also part of the equation for picking out the best for my style, but I would really like to have some opinions so I can jump onto those guitars first. :)
Thanks bunches,

Tone "fatness" is the calling card of the Les Paul. |

Im going to say the LP just from my experience, but the tone of a guitar has alot to do with the pickups and the wood the guitar is made of. Research which woods offer what tonal qualities and the same for pickups then you might be able to narrow it down to what your looking for. Brose around warmoth.com for a little more information on the tone different woods offer as if i remember correctly they have a chart to help users decide which wood is right for their custom bodys/necks. |

not only are lps very fat and full, if you choose wisely, you can find one that can also reach those crisp led-zeppelin tones. its just how you turn your knobs. thats why i had to get the classic. |

all the guitars(exception flying v's for i don't know cause never played one fully) are a more fuller tone but it's going to vary from guitar to guitar. for example Teles are known for there bright spank but your can't get a better mellow jazz tone if there set up right with some good Hums. All you can get from brand models are generalizations you really need to see each LP models to really tell what your going to get from it. kind of like what toast said, mahogany gives a more fuller tone, and that's what most Lps are made off but not all. that and there are many more factors involved then can be listed here. you really got to go and play each model.
so basically the point is all(the ones i have any experience with any way) are fuller tone guitars but that doesn't mean that certain model of such and such is going to have a full sound they vary due to the many factors involed. |

You should have put the American Fender HH Strat on the list. Rather than the standard 3 single coil p/ups it has 2 splitable 'buckers'. A Black Cobra in the bridge
position and a Sidewinder in the neck. It sounds very 'beefy' when the buckers are engaged though perhaps not quite as dirty as an LP. |

Yeah i forgot about that, i have something similar to that except its an Epi strat copy but the tone is definately beefy. |

You probably need to be looking at either the LP or the SG though not necessarily Gibsons which are quite heavily over priced. High end Epi's are pretty good both in tone and playability (and much better value for money). You'll also notice that compared to a Strat, which is quite highly tensioned, LP's and SG's are quite easy on the fingers when you're 'bending.' |

yeah, I overbend strings a little bit too much going from a strat to a 24.5" scale length guitar, I was definitely thinking about getting an Epi over the Gibson just because of the price difference |

If you've got the readies, E-Bay have quite a few really good second hand SG's coming up over the next couple of days. One has the '60's tapered neck. I'd love to bid for it myself but I've just failed to sell my G&L ASAT so I can't(another victim of the credit crunch!). |

I can't even vote man, because I've never seen, played, or heard ANY epiphone that even comes close to a real deal Gibson. You get what you pay for these days. A 1960 VOS Les Paul is my personal favorite. But Gibson Les Pauls anyday, and a hot-rodded strat for the true blues fans out there. |

I've never seen, played, or heard ANY Gibson that even comes close to my price range though man. Honestly though, my personal favorite is the Korina Wood Explorer by Epiphone. really fat tone, cool color, and I like the body style better than the LP. I tried one out a couple days ago, that's got to be my next guitar. Thanks for the help though guys

Definately the gibson les paul. But if you want something with a really fat tone, that can also sound like a strat, a les paul, and an ibanez, laguna guitars are amazing. The quality of sound, and the different tones you can get astonish me. However, for good ones they are pricey. My Laguna Le924 (Greg Howe's new guitar) was around $1,500 on sale to. So I saved up (for me only a couple sells on my art, and 2 paychecks from blockbuster did the trick). I have made it sound like a JEM7, a Strat, an Ibanez and a gibson as well. I recommend Laguna's to anyone, as the versatility is outa this world! |
