Regarding my last post, I could have quite a problem with the sound carrying. i live in the basement, and even when my dad is working in his office above the garage, you can still hear it with the volume at 3-4. 15 watt amps should not be considered small, unless its for gigging. This is just for a quick fix. Any suggestions using *household* materials(blankets, pillows, etc.)? Places to put them or something? |

Really? I had never even thought of that, did a lot of research and it all pointed at really expensive sound foam, like the stuff that is almost $120 for about 6 square feet. They say that egg cartons will also do something to deadening the sound, but i don't exactly live off of eggs alone.
thanks for the help, now to find a giant sponge... |

I've also heard that egg cartons work well, but have never tried using them myself. You might be able to get a local establishment (restaurant, etc.) to give you the ones they go through. |

or to get the best of both worlds, fill the egg cartons with sponge! even if it is some cheap sponges from a hardware shop. |

Egg cartons can be used anywhere though, recommending the walls and cieling from my experience. |

I used one of these Japanese style privacy screens i got at salvation amry real cheap. This would work as a temporary wall that could be put up and take down.
I also had gotten the egg shaped foam that is supposed to used as a mattress pad. I put Velcro the attach the mattress pad to the privacy screen.
It does not kill all other noise but it did make a big difference.
I had also put a big box around my computer to cut down on fan noise.
I'm not sure about the egg cartons, the material they are made of are pretty dense and I would think would still bounce sound off them rather than absorb them.
If your using your computer to record with keep in mind that CRT (TV Style monitors) use magnets to focus light and this can cause some pickup noise. It' really bad with single coil pickups. |
