Anyone out there that can do it, have you always been able to or did it come to you in a flash? I was listening to an interview of leo kottke and he described that one day he just could do it and it was like riding a bike. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this. |

Haha thats one of the hardest things to do with guitar in my opinion
I can do it with a few songs, though I have trouble with changing rythym and keep singing |

i can do a few songs, if the guitar isnt too tricky. songs like Paranoid or Electric Funeral are fairly easy to do both
i think its a little like playing guitar, dont take it to fast, play both parts slow until you are comfortable and speed it up |

I have been working on it with the songs **es aint ** as performed by ben folds, and stairway to heaven. I get lost in stairway to heaven randomly through the song, but with songs with heavy chords like **es aint **, I find that it is much easier if you focus your strumming pattern as a part of the vocals, if that makes any sense. Saying it another way would be, singing a certain (I can not for the life of me think of how to spell it but) sylobol? along with the up or downstroke of a chord, So the downstroke of an A chord would land on the "itch" of **es and so fourth. |

haha I did not realize it would get censored, I am sure you guys can guess the song I am referring to, but I will give a different example to make it more clear. Singing as though the downstroke of an A chord would land on the "long" of "a long long time ago". |

i can't do complex stuff when im singing, but i can do some stuff if i focus on what im doing. it's hard to get, but if you practice enough you get it. |

I once heard you should be able to play the Star Spangled Banner and sing Happy Birthday at the same time! |

It gets easier, practice it everyday for a while. I started playing first and soon do both, but that didn't mean as soon as I started to do both I was good right away. I played instinctivly slower at first, you eventually can strum/pluck at the right parts of your words. Although when I began to get my timing right my voice would often go off key sometimes as a result, but don't threat if that happens. I found that helped repace mayself as I continued to play in the right places and as I got better with both gradually build my tone in anyway I wanted.
I improved everyday, don't ever let yourself be put off if you ever get slower or miss, that I ofund out to be cucial. The only way I ever got pretty good at one song was taking the paces I need to improve or warm up again. Generally, just stay positive :) |

I can do it. It didn't come to me in a flash though... just worked on it really slowly over and over until I was able to do it properly. |
