Since your a beginner, why not start by trying to teach yourself?
You will understand concepts much easier if you learn them through your own experiance

Still, hang around this site and try the tabs at the top, they are very useful

I memorized all the notes in them and tried to understand and figure out how they worked, thats how i started...how long have u been playing.

They are the same, i don't quite understand it myself, but use the circelof fifths to help u until u have memorized all the notes!

Im not sure if your should confuse him with modes

I think the first thing you need to know are all of the open chords, the notes of the strings, and then the major scale before you even start thinking about the modes

Memorize all the notes on the guitar, thats the first thing u gotta Knowing where every note are if u don't know that i don't recomend u starting learning the modes, i didn't understand a **, i don't understand a ** now either, but i do understand a little more:)

Dude, the minor scale is pretty much the same position as the major scale except its 3 semi-tones lower

ex. the position of C major is the same as A minor

yeah, maybe not best no hit the modes just yet:P

once you know all the basic chords, can switch between them quick and clean,and can keep good timing while strumming. start with the pentatonic scale. maybe check out the 24 permutations to get your right and left hands coordinated

That is incorrect...the modes in a MAJOR key are:
Ionian (I), Dorian(II), Phrygian(III), Lydian(IV), Mixoilydian(V), Aeolian(VI) and Locrian(VII).

The aeolian mode is also the natural minor scale and the relative minor to the major key.

That is the key of G major man...which you can immedietly tell because G major has only one sharp in it.




That is because A minor is the relative minor to C major.

Tell us what you DO know. What experience do you have? It says in your bio that you have one year of experience. What have you learned in one year please?
I want you to go here http://www.justinguitar.com/index.php and look on the left side of the page for "the basics" and then "beginners course". Start looking at those lessons and then come back and tell me if you already know these things. If you don't know the basics then spend some time there and learn, but please keep in touch with us for questions and help. If you do know all the basics then please come back and tell ME to shut up! lol

Agreed with Phip, Modes are way too advanced for him right now.

Couldfor, you should start by practicing chords, the chords section on this site should help, but you should start by learning the very basics; Major and Minor chords. Learn them up and down the fretboard.

Would you like me to write a beginners lesson on it for you?

Speed isn't everything, you need to make sure you practice these very slowly, with no mistakes, once you're able to play it at a certain tempo with no mistakes, then you can increase your speed.

Good job Master Phip. Yeah. This guy is just looking for structure and a starting point. You gave him that.

Yeah, Unfortunately I can't guide you the whole way, but all of us here can help when we can. But music is mainly about yourself and how you learn. Because we can't play the guitar for you and tell everyone you did it.

Folk guitar is a good starting point, keep that up, you'll get a good sense of rhythm if you keep playing that. If you're willing to buy a program, I recommend buying "100 Chords Method" that will help you with chords, basic ear training, tempo and rhythm.

I'll write a new lesson and it should be up soon.
