Hmmm wise words EMB....
@ RA
buddy never ment no offence hea it would just be nice if you actually read what you shoot down.
The Ramones - American
The Damned - English
Sex Pistols - English
The Clash - English
Dead Boys - American
2/3 is not that bad ;-)
RA says: the whole chart it stupid sorry it is. it as dumb as the people who say punk is English. |

Even RA is right (as he usually is), I must mention that even Rocking and rolling is a term and even the roots of rock and roll is in 1950 rhytm blues. Its a music genre and its exist. As well as punk (if we examine I think we found its roots from rock which got roots from rock and roll that leads us again to rhytm n blues)
Also someone might say that Punk do not exist because its culture born somewhere 1970 that have anarchist tendencies doh well...
Rock n roll is departed from rhytm n blues around 1950. That what rhytm n blues usually had/have shuffle based rhytm, rock n roll have more straight rhytm. Ofcourse its not essential, but its major and noticeable change.
Every music genre have its roots somewhere, but they are still music genres even though for music lovers its secondary and meaningless.

@ AcGrimm
All I have to say is that "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" does not sound like a good source at all.
Like seriously bad, haha. :P
A more appropriate title might be "Metal: A Bang-Your-Head-Against-Something Journey". |

yes rock is dead. when the jonas brothers are the best selling rock band you know that rock is dead. though i think it might becoming back in a few years because there's been an increase in indie music, atleast where i live. |

AcGrimm, Wikipedia isn't a good source. Anyone can join, and anyone can write whatever they want. There is A LOT of false information on that website, and Mods can't view every single post because it covers every topic in the world.
Foogered: ahaha! Classic man. I'm going to use that quote now :P |

haha patleh in my opinion rock died when the King did... Long live the King.
But as long as they're music gets played they won’t ever really be dead.
@ Jazz & foogered
It’s your choice on what to read and to watch so I won’t try to convince you, too much.
The movie or documentary has many reviews and unfortunately here at work I can’t read this one: www.rollingstone.com/reviews/dvd/10533320/review/10533032/metal_a_headbangers_journey will do it tonight at home... but I can read this one:
http://fest06.sffs.org/films/film_details.php?id=61
The ‘Knowledge’ in the movie doesn't really get imparted by the director/host but by the actual artists themselves... so don’t believe me or even Sam Dunn(director/host), believe the artists. He interviews a lot of ppl. |

i agree with RA in saying that that chart is stooooppiidd.
how cna metallica and megadeth be put in the same class as slayer...slayer is more death metal LOL. i always thought of jimmy hendrix as psychedelic rock.
on another note...i really...dislike...techno, dance and electro because of the lack of thought put inot the music. Musicians who play actual instruments hav to leanr the skills involved with their eprsonal instrument as well as scales and theory of music. With the DJ's they may learn scales and theory but in essence their "instruments" are just buttons not requiring coordination and such. :D |

There is FAR more to electronic music than just DJs pressing buttons. This is how we replied last time you said that.

I watched the documentary for myself (and you can too, because the whole thing is on Youtube), and I agree that it is a good documentary. However, it seems like you misinterpreted some of the stuff from the "Origins" chapter, and that's what kind of threw me. Some of the people that are interviewed don't quite know what they're talking about, but are pretty close (*cough* Cannibal Corpse *cough*).
Also, if you have any respect for Slipknot or are from Iowa, do not watch this film. If you have any respect for them (Which I didn't in the first place) you will lose it, and if you're from Iowa you'll just get pissed off. He makes Iowans out like we have nothing better to do but sit around and imagine a better life than the one we're living. Those guys are pathetic if that's really what they believe. |

I really dislike this thread, and every other thread like it. The thread starter tends to be ignorant and claims that because the mainstream isn't focused on what it was focused on in the 80s that rock is dying. Don't be stupid. Rock music is very much alive in different forms, and just because you don't like them particular sub-genres doesn't mean they aren't worthy of the title 'rock'.
Almost everyone I know likes some types rock music alongside other genres, and I know a lot of different type of people. |

On the documentary front I totally agree foogered, the part on slipknot was a waste but I do love the Norwegians... they are so crazy. Haha the Iommi and Dio interviews rocked. So happy he didn't interview Ozzy though.
aye Doz...
