Fast?

Anyone suppose this is a fast neck? I'm not too sure. Never played one that was all polished, etc. Your thought.

If it looks that good, I'd imagine so. It just looks like your palm would stick if you worked up a sweat.

You need to master slow first before you consider yourself decent enough to play fast, you know. Make sur eyou make no mistakes, and PLAY CLEAN. You'll sound amazing on distortion if you're perfect on clean first.

What's more important is to get a guitar with a fairly thick neck, practice your speed on that, make sure you're actually good - meaning, get a pro to rate your playing. THEN get a guitar with a thin neck... maaaaan you'll be amazed at how EASY it is to play after that. It's a lot more exciting too, plus it boosts up your confidence.

Actually, my guitar teacher [I consider it pro] records, has had many bands, and has been playing since he was like six. He has his own studio too. And he says I'm one of the better students. And that my speed is more than what is usually expected. And yeah my guitar's neck is quite thick. Its actually a little hard to get to certain spots, but I still manage to get 'em. So is it a FAST neck thats easy to get around? I know its thin but fast?

It's not a matter of calling it a fast or slow neck, more like thick or thin. The thinner the neck, should make it easier to zoom around, but then, it'll only make the thicker necks more of a challenge for you to play later on.

I see your point Jazzy, but its nothing I can't overcome. Practice makes perfect!! lol.

That is my guitar! I haven't had a problem with it but I learned to play on it so it all I know. Jazz is right about learning to play on a thick neck. My paul has a thick neck and I picked up my brothers strat the other day and I could fly on it's thin neck.

The only Gibson I've played that has what might be described as a 'fast' neck is the SG '61 re-issue (though I understand the ES335 comes close) The fastest neck I've ever played on though is my G&L ASAT (see below)

Tele's aren't my favourite type of guitar, but you are right about the fretboard. It is definitely amazing to play.

Are you talking about the Gibson SG '61? Or Epiphone?

I've had both Gibson and Epi LP's and disliked both equally for their rounded necks. I haven't yet found an Epi SG with the thin '60's neck so if I was in the market for one it'd have to be a Gibson. I'm more than happy with my ASAT though so I'll stick.
