I've never had that happen but S#!@ happens. Go spend a couple of buck on another a string.
If it happens alot then it could be that there is a sharp edge that is cutting the string on the bridge.
Check out this bridge it may fix the problem

Like telecrater said, sometimes weird stuff happens. Probably just a faulty string. |

Or, you're possibly playing the string too hard? But since this is the first time it's happened, I kind of doubt it. |

I don't think resting on it should make a difference. It's more like; the bridge being too sharp and it's slowly cutting the string. |

The same thing happened to my Banjo on the E string. It used to be more or less fine but it was still new when I had ownership of it when the tuner twisty thing (aren't I good knowing names?) kept slipping away, it needed rescrewing all together, new screw and twisty tune thing and everything.
Although by then I was scared of my banjo as after it kept slipping and I got all mad at it, I kept tuning it back up constantly until my E string snapped and hit me hard in my eye, since then I'm usually to scared to touch it. |

it just happened again, cept with my e string, its been going outta tune for the last few days and now just got unraveled, the high e string. as you can see i changed them a week ago, why is this happening? it didnt even unravel by the bridge thing but by the stopper. |

My low E unravelled once ages ago, but I don't see how an uncoiled string could do it. |

idk its not like uncoiled, its like...well in like the uncoiled shape, like scraggly, and bent but not like on an angle like in circls almost, like the string part on the tuners but lots smaller.
ernie ball regular slinky, nope, barley even touched it, but it had been going down a half step or whole step the last 2 days, just outta no where. |
