Like super high singing:
Helloween's singer
3 Inches Of Blood
Crazy growls like:
Between The Buried and Me
Lamb Of God
Insane vocals:
Slipknot
Five Finger Death Punch
And any other INSANE sounds you hear that go from SUPER HIGH screams to messed up, scary low not-understandable growls?
I am just listening to Between The Buried And Me and I really like them but their vocals are crazy too.
Care to share your knowledge with me?

Most guys just sing however feels natural and try to make it match the music like the chick from Flyleaf she has a lisp and shit but she still makes it sound in the same vibe as the song |

I would say Robert Plant kind of pioneered the high pitched stuff. I'm sure there were others before him, but no one was as good or nearly as big. |

Robert Plant, as much as I hate them..., he was the first shrieker... (The Deep Purple guy was very close though...) Allthough, in the early 70's Rob Halford pushed it to a new level.
For the distorted grunty stuff... Lemmy from Motorhead, chuck berry also did something pretty close in Boris the Spider if I recall.
In all reallity though, falseto was done in early chamber music, and they were able to go far higher then pretty much anyone you've heard, since they would purposely eunichize(or what ever that cognition of eunuch is...) boys so that they would soar over sopranos. And they did this becuse boys can pull a much stronger falsetto then girls and thus they would accually sing far higher then any girl...
And for the distorted stuff, Byzantine singers around 900ish began to sing extremely low with a gurgally sound, they just did it for atmosphere though. However, if (and they probably did) sang words like that they would basiclly be grunting... |

Veqq, I never knew this kind of stuff went WAAAAAY back. I mean, I knew it was around after 1950 but didn't think it was THAT old. haha, wow.
Pusher, that girl from Flyleaf's voice is INSANE, same with Otep, and Arch Enemy - never knew that was a girl! |

I think Plant, and Halford really started it. |

I forgot to add in there:
Halford's voice was pretty damn insane too!
There's something I really like about super high screaming.
I think King Diamond had some songs with brutal screams too. |

Yeah, in Priest's early days, Halford would fucking scream at the highest octave he could. |

He probably can't anymore though, like Axl Rose, he probably destroyed his vocal chords. |

Yeah, you can't sing like that night after night, tour after tour, and expect to be able to do it forever. |

Although, it would be pretty awesome if someone could.
I can't even sing very well in a normal singing voice, so I don't think I could ever do stuff as crazy as that.
Can any of you guys here on AGC sing well? |

I think I am starting to slightly get better at singing and some type of growling.
I can kinda sing like the guy from Five Finger Death Punch now. The growls he does anyways, the singing, kinda. |

Hetfield Growl? I can only sound angry but I cant growl. I can hit pretty high notes. Like I sang Beyond the Wheel by Soundgarden and someone recorded me. I was like who is that? It was me:/ I'm not into the growling. I dont think it makes your band harder. I think its misplaced energy. However, I do think Alexi Laiho is the best at growling and hes the only one I can listen to. |

Growling is not what makes your band harder.
The instruments are what make it hard and heavier.
The voice just adds more to it.
It's all in the tone, man. |

I agree Guitarboy but I cant listen to super low tunings that sound more like my crappy V8 than a Metal song. I do like the sound Korns Bass makes though. I think its original. Korn sucks arse now.I never really liked them just the bass. Lyrics are very important to determinig how heavy a song is. Like "I'm gonna stab you and F%$#ing rape your corpse" or "DEvil,Diabulus Etc." You know Satan is a unforgiving fucker he wont sympathize with you cause you sing about him. As soon as you go to hell he's gonna rape you blind. Its not cool and it shows lack of talent. |

Well I like some low tuning, it depends mainly on how it is used I guess. Like if a punk band is gonna do Drop C, then I don't think I would like it... prove me wrong if you want to. But I think incredibly low tuning are meant for stuff like Nu Metal, it just sounds better. I was never into KoRn either, I just like the name lol.
There is really no point in singing about Satan, you're right. Cause he'll probably like slice yer nuts off, make you eat them, then kill you. I don't think even singing about religion stuff will do much good for you. I guess it depends on what you believe. But Stryper is a really good Christian band. |

I use drop C the ODD time. I am usually in either Standard or Drop D though.
I don't hate people based on religion so yer cool with me dude.
I don't have a religion but I do believe in God, I just question it. |

There are allot of Metalhead Christians... or at least where I live...
But the drop tunings... They just sound muddy to me and make me wonder why not play a Bass. (This is all under D standard..) And I always wonder, what happened to more interesting tunings? No one seems to use them anymore...
I mean, if I had another guitar with which to do it, I would totally tune my guitar to 5ths but ya... |

Don't forget 'The silver throated screamer' Ian Gillan. He was doing his thing around the same time as Plant in a band called Episode Six in the mid 60's before he joined Deep Purple. He could hit 'highs' that RP could only dream about! |
