VS. Steve Vai, Malmsteen, and Micheal Angelo Batio. I guess there will be mixed opinions about this but I think Joe is the greatest. What do you all think? |

Technique-wise, probably not, but he is my favorite out of all of them though. |

Dude I'ma get a post on here really soon about the 50 fastest clocked guitar players, now I personally don't like Vai due to his glam metal look, Malmsteen is one of my fav's because of his bringing of the Neo-Classical movement although lately hes gotten fat and arrogant, Satriani I give cred as a guitarist but I'm not a fan, Batio is my favorite of the bunch because of the 2 hanf tap the ability to play ambidextiously and his speed and prowess at every technique out there |

@Pusher :O
You are judging people based on their appearance. Not cool!
I like Steve Vai, he's pretty cool. |

Hmm... Jason Becker and Randy Rhoads! But Since they are both unable to play guitar, I will go with MAB. |

Paul Gilbert and Buckethead...
And as impressive as MAB's technical ability is... I'd rather headbutt the sidewalk for hours on end than listen to his music. |

Hmm, out of the ones mentioned in the first post, I like Satriani the best. My favorite "shredder" is probably Buckethead, even though he is a weirdo. :D
But the "shred metal" style doesn't really appeal to me. Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen, etc. are all incredibly talented, but I can't really get into the music. |

Hmmm, as a dedicated fan of Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen and Gilbert (Malmsteen to a lesser extent) I can honestly say that Satch's style is the least 'shred' of them all. In fact, he hardly ever shreds. When he plays fast stuff it is through the legato style which I massively prefer to listen to over something that sounds more like a machine gun!
I wouldn't call any of them shred metal as such either, when I think of shred metal I think of very fast, very loud, very technical and minimally melodic, which to be honest Satch, Vai and mostly Gilbert are not, although I would agree Malmsteen could easily fall into that category. Completely agree with matt's post on Batio too!

We'll when I said about Buckethead I was talking about the talent he has,I agree the music is soso...but the talent is there (wierd talent but talent). I agree I dont think anyone of them is shred just multi talented in phases.Malmsteen came out and evryone said Holy shit! but back then the talent he showed wasnt around (or just being heard). I think of shred as a diffrent talent(wierd if you will) guitar playing as afro said technical but doesnt have to be fast or melodic, and being loud has nothing to do with it,shreding is a certain sound and style( that I cant find or afford)its clean, complicated distortion multi technical with all kind of styles put together in one thought and by no means easily done, and as far as becoming a accomplished shredder thats even takes it to a hole diffrent level,so my hat off to everyone mentioned ,Satch,Vai,Malmsteem, and of course Gilbert because they did just that. |

any of you guys herd " too many Humans by buckethead" i love that song just because its buckethead stepping out of his weirdness to play something slow and bluesy. if you listent to that you will have a whole new respect for him. i will always think zakks the best though. he can play damn near anything and he can sing while doing it. thats 200% more diff than just shreding to me. i think john Frusciante (chili peppers) put it best. " its all about the music its not about showing people what you can do with a peice of wood" |

Shred wise, there are Many faster and more technical than Satch,Gilbert,Petrucci,Rusty Cooley,Etc Etc
The thing is,everyone of this Famous guitar players are famous not only because of their talent, but because they did something revolutionary or something new,Satch popularized Instrumental guitar to an almost mainstream Extent (satch songs were on the radio in the good old days of rock) A thing that Jeff Beck Was not capable of,wich is a shame.
Gilbert and his Super Fast Tempo Riffs and Killer In-box shredding,Petrucci The Father of Modern Prog Metal Guitar,Vai And his quirky playing style, wich may sound goofy and sometimes unnecessary, but he really doea Domething DIferrent, something aside the Average Instrmental Guitar Shredder.
So yeah,Guitar Wise I Rather have Some Gilbert,Goerge Lynch Or Petrucci |

In my opinion
Satriani is amazing, he was the first of these guys I heard and I was like, How The Hell Does He Do That
Vai is awesome, but I don't like him as much
Malmsteen is pure epicness, I heard he is the fastest in the world, don't know if it's true though, Love his stuff
Buckethead is awesome, he is so creative and different in my opinion, and he is skilled aswell. |
