That's like saying "What's better: Straws, or Pickles" - They're two completely different things. |

What a horribly vague poll. At first glance it seems like a guitar vs bass poll (which, as has been stated, are two different things and hard to compare qualities)... but then you can vote for absoluely any other instrument you want in the 'other' box... so what's the point?

I guess the question is what is your favorite instrument. If that is the case I would have to say guitar. |

I'd have to go with guitar. I just like to go and do some fast solos and bend the strings and stuff. I tried bass, but it wasn't totally my thing. |

Haha, in which case... it's like asking a tennis player what their favourite sport is. :P
Most answers will probably be guitar since it's primarily guitarists on these forums. I'll say guitar. |

I'm torn. I did spend several years just playing the bass. The bass has a very different dynamic to it, and bass players are a lot less common, than guitar. If you want to get into a band learn the bass bands are always looking for bass players.
I decided to quit trying to get into a band and just wanted to compose and record so I returned to the guitar. but still there is nothing like that deep growl of a bass and plucking of the strings.
I'll vote both! |

Yeah this is exactly the type of pointless post that makes me come to these forums less and less... |

Well, I like playing guitar more, but nothing beats hearing a good bassist like Wooten, Entwistle, etc. |

I like both - the guitar is inevitably capable of doing more and being more versatile stylistically, but you can't beat a good slap bass solo, it just sounds so amazing!

i find my self respecting bass players alot because good guitar players are a dime a dozen compared to good bass players. |

I agree that it definitely helps understanding of song structure and theory. I highly respect the role of a bass player in a band. Fortunately my bandmates feel the same and we allow some bass solos. |
