What exactly are you trying to achieve Simon?

I mean, are you trying to isolate guitar parts from CD's for instance?

I think he is. I didn't think that possible (at least no perfectly) due to the mixdown in production. They'd have to be seperate tracks for you to isolate them. An alternative is midi (maybe even with real sound plug ins) to get one part, but it won't be exactly the same as the recording.

lol i do tht with my i pod. if i pull the thing tht goes into the i pod out in a way tht its just barely in the ipod, it blocks out the singing and keyboards and leaves me with guitar and drums, sounds really cool, especially on welcome 2 the jungle.

Guitar Pro is midi based but you can download guitar pro files from the internet and play just the guitar parts or everything if you wish.

emb5490: That'll be because of the mixing. The tracks you're listening to have instruments panned to the left and right, and when you pull the headphone jack out a bit only half of it is making the connection.

If you scout around, you can sometimes find backing CD's that go with these "Play like (whichever guitarist)". On these they often isolate the guitar part by 'panning' either left or right with your balance control.
Otherwise you might invest in some of the 'convert your old records and CD's software'(IE Magix or Nero). It won't entirely isolate the instruments you want, but it will get you fairly close by way of graphic equalisers and filters.
Hope this helps.

Are you talking about the CDGT Guitar trainer (or rather the MP3 version)? I understand the later models do a karaoke effect that (almost) isolates the guitar.

I've had the original CDGT1 since it first came out 2-3 years ago GS. I wouldn't be without it now. My ears aren't quite as quick to pick up as they used to be so I find it an invaluable tool to learning new songs. Bit like a walking stick for a cripple!

( Waits for ribald comments !)
