Guitar Rig 5

I have a question for anyone who may be able to help. To start, I know that if I connect my guitar directly to my computer, using an adapter, the computer receives the signal. I tested using Audacity, and it sounds like ***, but whatever, it recognizes the signal. I tried to do the same thing and use Guitar Rig 5, and it does not seem to recognize the signal at all. I have no idea why and did some research on the internet and couldn't come up with a good answer to my problem. Do any of you have any ideas of what I might need to do to get this to work properly? When I bought Guitar Rig 4 (I have Guitar Rig 3 also) I had to also buy a USB interface (which came with it's own software) with it.

It sounds like you need to calibrate/update/inform your sound card. Certain products use specific sound card drivers. For example, I know that Guitar 4 uses the ASIO driver thus I'd be willing to bet that Guitar Rig 5 requires the same drivers. I would try going to download.com or the Native Instruments webpage and try to download that driver.

I'm not at home so I can't give a more detailed response, but that is where I would start. I would also look into EMU. They make excellent and reliable audio interfaces, or Lexicon and of course you can just buy the Native Instruments UAI like I did (I actually own an interface from all three companies).

You can connect it directly to computer, if you have right cable connectors. Speaking of interfaces here mean actually soundcards. Difference to normal soundcards, those mentioned have low latency that means when you play with it, response is more quicker than normal soundcard. Sound is also better.

I used those much earlier, IK multimedia products and also guitar rig's, but later on i realised that they just sound... well, not legit. You can get cool and strange sound of em, but they never beat say hardware simulators like POD or others connected clean to computer. Just my 2 cents thou.

What I read this device, I think you not wasted your money. I maybe speak too term based stuff. So "interface" means whole thing or device(many cases also included built in integrated soundcard) It seems that this device have built-in integrated soundcard that took place when you plug it in your computer.

User reviews on this, many said it have almost no latency which is very good when using guitar rig forexample. Also mentioned it have quite less buzz.

Im forward to hear your experiences with this, seems quite cheap compared to versatility.

I have that lexicon in my home pc, quite nice though I have little problems with windows 7 with it (lose connection or signal) and I have to take usb cable off and back in to get it works in time to time. Very handy anyway...

That seems like a nice piece of equipment. I was hoping to find something cheaper, understanding that it was a risk that it might not work. Hopefully it does, but if not, I knew the risks in buying it.

Fair enough. I too have that Lambda and it is great. Unfortunately it's sitting in a box in storage, but I'd recommend it to anyone.

Long time since I've been here! I actually just bought an apogee jam about a month ago. I think it only works on a Mac though. I can use it on my Mac, iPhone or iPad. It has no latency! I use guitar rig 4 with it and it has the best sound quality than anything else I've tried so far.

I was seriously considering what you bought btimm. I think it'll work great! Let me know.

I just got it today and installed the audio driver and tried to run Guitar Rig. Now Guitar Rig won't even open, it just bombs on me. This is getting to be fairly annoying.

It is annoying getting started. Did you buy guitar rig or download a hacked copy? I ask because when I tried to use a hacked copy on my mac I had all kinds of problems. Also, you have to set your sound input from the computers mic to your new interface. Then make sure guitar rigs input is changed as well. I don't know how to do this on a PC.

I downloaded it to test it out and will be buying it in full if it did what it could do - replace my amps. I not sure how to change the input to have it set as USB instead of the mic input for the computer, but I did change the audio settings in Guitar Rig. I can try to do some research when I get home from the gym, need to vent some right now. I would have thought this should have been easy.

What do you mean by this?

If you're using a PC. Right click the little audio speaker icon on the bottom right of your screen, next to the clock. Select "recording devices". If your interface is plugged in, you should see it listed. Simply click it and set it to default. You can do the same for playback devices.

I didn't do any research into your product, but with most interface software, you should had to do an initial setup. During the setup there should be an option to select your default devices and drivers.

if you have to run a Plank DI ... Waves (waves.com) GTR or Waves Solo are the very best at that sort of thing. its a thang i dont, lol, condone but have found usful with studio clients, and a BLAST (they feel like rock-gawds) to let my younger students use, rather than one of the amps. that "fun" factor makes them practice harder soooo in that capacity i love the sucker :)

now remember i am a grouchy old man who still loves his tubes and microphones...

@btimm, what GS said. Your computer by default has the sound input set to the computers mic. What I do on my mac is make sure the interface is plugged into the usb on the computer and on (if it runs on separate power other than usb),then restart my computer. That way, it comes on looking for audio devices and will be listed.

I did that and it wasn't set as the default initially. That's probably expected, so that is something I would have had to change. I did notice that it was receiving the signal from my guitar, so the issues with Guitar Rig are definitely with the software or settings on my computer and not any physical issues. It continues to crash on me now whenever I set the USB to my GR audio input. I attached a minicrash log on the Native Instruments website, so far no one has responded to my thread. I am really hoping this gets resolved soon, I am anxious to use the setup!

Wow, I'm surprised you're having so much trouble. I have Guitar Rig's 3 and 4 and I've had zero problems with them. I'll try and find time to look more into it and share what I come up with.

Yeah man, I am about to give up. Sucks because I was really excited, but I submitted my crash log on the NI forums like 4-5 days ago and have not yet had a single response. I am at a loss. Oh well I guess.

Do you have these requirements?
Windows 7 (latest Service Pack, 32/64 Bit), Intel Core Duo or AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended)

I have Windows 7 latest service pack and I believe I have 6 GB of RAM, not sure about the other, I'd have to check, but my guess is that I do.

I am definitely getting a signal into my computer, Guitar Rig is simply not seeing it and it is also now having a fatal error.

I tried using Audacity with the new audio interface I have and it worked without any problem at all. I am not sure why GR5 keeps crashing on me, but I think once that is resolved, then all my issues will be resolved, since clearly my computer sees the signal and it worked fine with Audacity.

Try checking where GR5 stores its audio files and make sure that file isn't corrupt. You can also uninstall and delete all boot files... than re-install (Better than only re-installing).

FINALLY! FINALLY! I got it to work. lol I installed ASIO4ALL and using that allowed GR5 to stop crashing and I could play through it. Man, I am beyond excited, but this also shows my relative ignorance relative to software and drivers for anything on the computer. Spreadsheets are my computer expertise, hahaha.

The sound is spotty at times. This could be a number of issues, since my headphones are garbage, my audio interface seems to be garbage, but you live and you learn. If it indeed my interface, GS124 warned me, hahaha

I found that ordinary sound cards are pretty much s**t, so I invested in a "proper" Audio Interface
