new acoustic choices?

im saving up for an acoustic and I'm looking for some help in choosing one. my budget is around 500 dollars. so far ive looked at some ovations, a takamine, and a gretsch. any other good brands that have good cheap guitars?

If you can drop a few extra bones, Carvin makes some amazing acoustics. But for keeping it cheap, Ovations aren't bad.

I would reccomend ovation. They are nice for the price you suggest.

I don't recommend buying an amazing expensive guitar unless you are serious about it. Otherwise I think you'll just be wasting your precious time and money.

Until you've played enough songs on the guitar and feel confident about the feel of the guitar, what makes it comfortable for YOU then you shouldn't pay anything higher than $60.

Buy a simple Acoustic with a nice thin neck and work your way from there. In time when you're better at guitar you'll know that you don't need opinions or recommendations from others because you'll know exactly what you want. :)

So I recommend that you go to a guitar shop and mess around with a few guitars yourself - DO NOT let the store assistants talk to you... they will only influence your decision and you might not be happy with the guitar you chose, which could stop you from enjoying playing guitar at all. This choice is YOURS to make - it's you who will be playing this guitar so you need to make sure it's comfortable and enjoyable to play.

Popular guitars are indeed nice, but in time you'll learn which ones are better with their own feel.

I played a really nice fender for about 350, she was really nice an I was even thinking about getting her but I got a tanglewood instead. I was a bit iffy though because of the fact she was made in China 0_o but I really enjoyed playing her so I picked her up. You really have to go to a store and try them out and like jazz said they will say anything to get you to buy one. When I played her the store workers all said to me at different times that that was their favorite guitar, maybe they were telling the truth but idk haha Go to different stores and try them out!

@jazzmaverick your advice is good for someone that has never played guitar. but ive played for almost 2 1/2 years. But I've always played electric. I mainly wanted to know of any brands you preffered.

I suggest starting with Greg bennet guitars for acoustic, their prices are reasonable and they are awesome , also they are good guitars to start with since you are a begginer, don't get a high costed guitar it won't worth it, because you are learning so don't forget that you will not produce music, at first you will consume the guitar in learning so you have to realize that you are not going to make videos and recordings yet , learning guitar needs years and years, i have been playing guitar for over 3 years and i still consider myself a begginer , i don't mean to put you down , vice versa i want you to know that learning guitar is interesting as well as producing music they are both interesting , just wanted to share some advice

I would keep it simple: go to a guitar store and play a bunch of acoustics. I would even play ones that you cant afford just to see what you like/don't like about them. Play some cheap ones too. Then buy the one you like the most within your budget. I wouldn't buy a cheap guitar just because it's cheap and you're a beginner. If it doesn't feel nice and sound nice you won't like it and you won't play it. Sometimes you have to pay a little extra to get what you like.

Also, don't be concerned with the brand. At the end of the day, no one cares what kind of guitar you have. You shouldn't either.

Never buy a cheap guitar! Take the $60 and get a used guitar for $125. Then you won't have wasted the $60 like you would if you bought a cheapo instrument.

In your case, (wannabe), I would try to get a used one anyway. I am looking for a used Taylor 214ce that should be availible for about that price.

A Taylor 214ce for $125!! Lol where? You must be only getting the headstock haha :p
