Prong is pretty cool, but not very industrial.
Those other band are weird examples imho.
Try Sharkbait, Skinny Puppy, Pigface, Throbbing Gristle, Grotus even Ministry for something actually Industrial or Industrial derived.
Revolting Cocks or KMFDM also might float your boat. (I grew up with this stuff.)
After that homework, post some of your new favorites! |

NiN is more "industrial" than Sepultura...but people do hate popular stuff because it's popular! I'll take Trent Reznor over most electronic, industrial or (****)-metal musicians. He's artictic, man. |

What the hell is industrial metal? That's not an accepted genre, but kudos to you for making it up! If you look up industrial metal on the net...people point to bands like I noted (including Rammestein, which I may disagee with and label as distorted glam rock, but oh well) but that is people looking back and trying to ascribe their own labels on the past. In the 80's and 90's it was called industrial or lite-industrial if you were really into smashing hammers on metal rhythmically and thought KMFDM were posers. Yay. |

I most certainly did not "make up the genre".Its legitimate and accepted.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_metal..
Read the entire article, most of the bands
you metioned are metioned along with sepultrula are metioned
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_industrial_metal_bands
This one shows that prong and rammenstein are both accepted
as industrial metal bands.
http://www.spirit-of-metal.com/groupe-groupe-Rammstein-l-en.html
Rammenstein with a Five Star rating, as one of the most
POPULAR Industrial bands, right behind nin.So you cant claim
i hate popular music.

Industrial metal is awesome. Though Prong is a bad example and Sepultura is not industrial. Marilyn Manson is Industrial Metal. As are, Propellerheads, Rob Zombie, Ministry, Rob D. and Filter.
The genre is 100% legitimate. But your examples fail you. Rammstein is a solid example, the others... Not so much.

I know you didn't mean it to be, but I found this slightly insulting as Industrial Metal is one of my favorite genres.

gs2112: Wikipedia is not infallible
Gs124: I may be wrong. I think my point is valid that people made up the genre long after the first wave of it had crested. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in remembering the genre being called industrial, and the term metal being tacked on after the fact, revisionist history style.
White Zombie's remix album is one of my favorite albums of undefined styles of music. Great crossover.
I just don't like Rammstein...so I'm biased about what style they play. |

You are right. There was Industrial and there was Metal. But just like anything else, someone thought Industrial would mix well with Metal, and thus was born Industrial Metal. i.e. - Neoclassical, MathMetal(jazz and metal), Pop-punk and so on.

Don't forget funk metal
Also NIN being one of my favourite bands and so influential in the genre I think they deserve a valid mention even if you don't like them, plus NIN is very diverse just look at the differences between pretty hate machine, the downward spiral and the fragile the first three albums and they are all very different.
Rammstein is a good choice (although my old german teacher did really hate them...) |

this may be a dumb question but what is the difference between industrial metal and Nu metal?
I grew up with industrial metal by the way |

When I posted a video on a 'favorite grooves' thread a while back "Theives" by Ministry there wasn't much love for it that day. It makes me happy that there are some people who like the same stuff here at AGC. |

@hatguitarguy think of the differences between limp bizkit and korn compared to rammstein and nine inch nails
To be honest I don't consider Nu metal to be a real genre because it's too vague it just seems to mean a new way of doing metal.
A lot of people say slipknot, linkin park and limp bizkit are nu metal and theres really very little similarities between those 3 bands. |

yeah I think thats it V3. the DJ I mean. But system of a down is also Nu metal so their is also some thing of a "new way" thing about it too. I dont know, I dont like Nu metal as much as industrial any way so that's what Im saying the difference is.

I remember when I was back in high school, Korn was considered nu metal and I don't think they had a DJ. |

korn is to nu metal what nirvana is to grunge from what I've gathered.
And it really is just a "nu" way of doing metal which does include djs rapping and all sorts of stuff so consequently it's (imo) a stupidly vague genre. |
