depends what stuff... I prefer amp but to get a good one it has to be loud.

yeah,if you have a loud amp then you can get good amptortion.but for low levels a pedal is probably the best way to go.

I like pedals for distortion but if I have a nice tube amp that gets a nice dirty sound I'll take that any day. Though I sometimes use a pedal to get the dirty channel on the amp to sound a bit better :P

Would be great to say amp but I'd really need a tube amp and a house away from people, or money to buy soundproofing.

So I'm gonna go with pedal.

I like to use both.
Set pedal before other fx, get different sounds than dist. set after other fx.

I usually use both, but have the amp set to a clean distortion and a pedal set to a thicker distortion, it gives you all different kinds of control and options
