Okay so this is my idea, turn a 3/4 acoustic into an electric.

First order of business would be switch the bridge, a strat style bridge is just bolted to the body right?
Next throw a P90 on it. Would stuffing the body full of insulation or foam and covering the hole cut out most of the feedback?
Put in an input jack and a volume knob and string er up. I guess thats all as far as I can tell, maybe this wouldn't work at all, was just an idea I had.

the foam will work,input jack shoud work if ya cut carfully enuuf,volume knob too,you could stuff the guitar with foam,and cut out cavities for the electronics.maybe a little bar stretched over the sound hole too mount the p90.just idea.

It's a good idea, their would be a few problems though. Well, you're biggest thing would be it'd have to be a hardtail strat bridge. Not a trem. And, if I were you i'd bolt it in. Not screw it in... just my 2 cents.

If you cover the hole you get that chamber, but the sound isn't being pushed out on the strings/pickup, so in theory you wouldn't get the feedback, and you would get the resonating hollowbody tone.

If it's a whammy strat bridge unfortunately there is more to it than just bolting down. It would stick way up without the counterbalance.
If it's not whammy it should be a couple bolts and that's it.
Make sure you keep the scale correct, you may need to locate a brace inside the body for the bridge. since most acoustic tops are thin, the bolts on the bridge may come loose if they are just popped in.

But a whammy in an acoustic body would be close to impossible. There's nowhere to attach the claw and the springs so he wont be able to tighten up the strings. That bridge will just pull forward. You would hav to cut a hole in the back of the guitar to service it for string changes and the like and also glue a big wood block inside to attach the claw to.

i suggest maybe a bixby style whammy

Oooh, good idy. With a gretsch style floating bridge...mmm no. The neck would have to site a heck of a lot higher for that to work. The action would be super high.

well isnt there a bixby thats lower to the fret board?or could it be modded in soway to male it lowrr?

There are the ones that are made for teles and the like... yeah, like use one of those and a jaguar bridge and you got one nice setup. :D

I didnt really have any intention of putting a whammy on it, but a Bigsby would be pretty friggen sweet, even if I never used it haha. I'm lookin up prices for stuff on ebay right now, P90's are dirt cheap its crazy

Why would you want an electric style bridge? Wouldn't putting the pickup in be enough to electrify it? Attaching a non-glue-on bridge to an internal bracing seems like a tone killer and the chance of the top bulging seems high.

Though it does seem like a cool idea to do something fun and crazy with an old guitar.

with a plastic/wood bridge, it doesn't ground.
You can either put a metal one, or wrap the old one in aluminum foil (which wears easily)

@Domigan Actually you can. My acoustic buzzed like crazy til I replaced the bridge pins with a paper clip and soldered a ground from the pickup to it.

Paper clip, aluminum foil, same result...
