Hey guys/gals! Im looking to buy a new distortion pedal. I want one that does a good job with a light Indie Rock distorted sound. Right now i have a Boss DS-1 which is not doing the job for me. I was thinking about the RAT. Do any of you have it? Is it good for what sound i want? Any other suggestions? Please, help would be amazing!
Maybe post an example of a sound you are trying to acheive, and whether you use humbuckers or single coils. I have a Rat clone that sounds a ton better with single coils thank hummers. Maybe other's have had similar experiences.
You can also look up the gear for a particular guitarist.
Big Muffs are classic. For the strokes kind of sound that you're looking for a tube screamer might work, but you might be a little disappointed with the results. You probably won't be able to make a "cheap 15 watt crate amp" do anything. Save up a bit and buy a little tube, you can bet that's how it was recorded.

yeah dude, I auditioned with someone else's stack, it was a Crate G something 120, and it sounded like crap. I use my tubescreamer(Bad Monkey) to boost my regular distortion to make it tighter(and sound more distorted than it really is) and on this amp nothing could make it sound better except for maybe turning it off haha
If you look into small tube amps, look at the Epiphone Valve Jr., you would be best suited after swapping the stock tubes and/or speaker(at some point), but they're cheap, 5 watts, and class A which to me, SCREAMS indie rock(though VOX AC30/15's reign supreme I believe).
Vox is the way to go,not too expensive and you get tones like those, think like an indie rocker, theyy usually are broke as hell and dont mess a lot with boutique brands,so yeah, the vox is the one!
