Yeah...it's not a Stanger snare though. That actually was a biscuit tin haha
Also I really didn't like the guitar sound on Death Magnetic...it was...odd |

Don't mean to turn this into a bash metallica thread. but i feel that this needs to be said. Death Magnetic is a collection of some of the worst guitar solo's of all time |

Don't worry man, I love Metallica!
But seriously Death Magnetic was a solid album on the song front...not mixing wise, and, it just had a weird guitar sound and some really bad solos on it. I just cannot get the same sort of vibe and groove out of the solos like I could on Ride, Master, or Justice(Black album didn't have great solos either).
But I love Kirk, James, Jason/Cliff/Rob, and that other guy(haha Lars). |

To me it seems their production went from raw to over-produced over the years. They hit the sweet spot on Master/In Justice then just got worse. Like case says, I still think the songs are goood but they lack something.
This video is brilliant and says it all! |

Agreed. It was almost like an overnight thing that they went from Master/Justice production(Almost perfect, Justice was a bit too dry) to the Black Album which was just ridiculous for production(re-mixed 3 times, and over $1 Mil. spent). I think it was just too fast considering how dry production was on Justice(though an amazing album, just needs bass!).
Then with the same over-production problems through Load/Re-Load, then BAM! St. Anger with virtually no production in comparison to the lst 3 albums(Studio I mean, not S&M). Then they brought in Rick Rubin to ruin this last effort by brick-walling the S^&% out of it.
I mean I love all their albums I just feel that they could have gone about production a bit differently during the Rock years. |
