Hey guys..

We are recording some new stuff for the label next week, and im needing advice i think..

I play through a Selmar 100w amp head, celestions in a 4by12 cab, Jim Dunlop wah, and a marshall Guvnor {80s version}, boss chorus, some other stuff but nowt drastic....

As im only guitarist i was looking to play a second track of guitars with a slightly different sound {nowt drasticly diff} to give it a slightly diff flavour...... but my mellon cant think what to add that may work..... you guys seem crazy enough to know what may work??? Any ideas...

if it helps, i usually use some chorus and slight delay on my leads and leave my rhythm tracks with just reverb. same sound but i add a little bit of delay and chorus is the only difference in the sound.
hope this gives you some ideas

take a 'room'-Mic (Large-D) and put it about 10-ft away from the amp
IF the floor is concrete this = easy if not grab one of the most reflective sheets of 'whatever' you can find and place it midway between Mic Stand and amp(on floor) AIM the Large-D at that midway point.
adds a nice warm feel that I've used since the 70's (old trick!)
THEN
to really 'make it different'
if open-cabinet-amp
place a trusty old SM57 about 12 inches behind (yes, behind) the back of a speaker
IF closed-Cab
place a trusty old SM57 about 12 inches away from speaker SIDE (as in side, lol) at a (make sure, use a square or you'll phase) 45-degree angle from the cabs 'throw-point' (usually 12" away from cab)
combine the two Mic signals or Pan them stereo .. you'll get a nice return either way.

hope that helped

Hey, I take guitar lessons, and my teacher actually has a recording studio in his basement! He uses a Line 6 tone package for his computer, and might I say, it is AWESOME!! It has all the tones you could want! Plus, you can edit these tones anyway you want. I don't know what recording program he usesm though. For the Line 6 thing, you just plug in, and it goes directly from your computer to a speaker! It's the best tones you can get! I would also suggest that you get a Line 6 tonecore Uber Metal pedal. It costs 80 bucks, but it's worth every penny! best distortion I've ever heard!

line6 makes good stuff, can't really hack on them for it. Everyone's ears like something else, and honestly i can't tell a line6 modeler w/ tubes(ie bogner head) from a vintage marshall with close to the same sound settings.
