Tinnitus

Today I am tired and little stressed. As a result, my tinnitus is driving me crazy! For those who don't know what tinnitus is, it is a constant ringing in the ears. It differs from person to person and can be caused by many things. It can be in one ear or both. Constant or only sometimes but for the most part it is awful.

I thought to post this because tinnitus is primarily caused by trauma to the inner ear. As musicians, especially guitarists and drummers, we are constantly exposed to loud noise that over time can cause tinnitus as well as hearing loss. I'm 45 and I have had long exposure to loud noise from concerts, playing in a band, in my room and so on. It's one of the reasons that I use digital vs tube but that's a whole other discussion.

If you are young and enjoy loud music I understand. I still love it loud! However, when you think it's too loud, don't just take it til you get used to it. Walk away or put in some ear plugs.

Ya know how you go to a concert and when you leave and get into your car and you can't hear as well and you have a ringing in your ears? Well, that's what it's like for me all day everyday. I've gotten kinda use to it but sometimes like when I'm stressed or tired it gets really loud.

Anyways, protect yourselved and don't end up like me!

I knew a guy once who was almost deaf at the age of 20. He would strap on the headphones and crank em up. Loved his music that's for sure. I only hope he loves his hearing aid half as much.

SO THAT'S WHAT THAT IS!!!!!!! i thought i was going crazy! turns out I'm just going def! and I'm only 15! i hear it constantly to. sometimes it rings so loud, i get headaches. i got to get me a pair of ear plugs.

If you have this at 15 I would see a doctor. It may not be because of the loud music. It could be an infection or something else.

I wish it was something that would just pass. For me it's permanent. Sometimes I go for weeks without noticing it but it is always there.

Na, ive had my ears checked, nothins wrong with em. i dont know how bad you got it, but all i know is that mine is very faint. i hear it when everything is really quiet.

If it is cause by the music then do whatever you can to protect your ears cause it will only get worse as you age. Your still young enough that your body is still regenerating new healthy cells.

Very good advices... May I sign for the group. I had Tinnitus over around 8 years... I learned to live it and I just dont notice it anymore but time when I go to sleep... sadly Phippie... it not pass over, never.

I dont know latest things, but I believe that even today, there is no cure.

I dont know, for me it not drive me crazy, but sometimes it makes me sad... because there never will be pure silence. Luckily I found other ways to simulate that.

edit: Yes, strange indeed. But I noticed same thing that it is louder when tired... maybe we should sleep more ^_^

DAMN YOU TINNITUS!!!!!

Ya know I mentioned this once to a friend of mine who is 62. He's pissed at me cause he never noticed it until I mentioned it! He started researching and paying more attention to it and it made him nuts! Your right Empirism. If you ignore it and stop worrying about it, it seems to go away.

Yeah, things could be worse, If I dont have both arms, cant walk or something like that... blindness... well... its not that bad, but axe forexample it's good to recognize it this early... So in cars, keep volume on easy level. And most of all... watch out headphones... they are most bad.. if you ask me.

For me its I think same like mac, its quite loud that I can hear it even if theres some computer humming near or even through little noises... but I have times, sometimes weeks that I dont know its presence at all.

Acknowledge of the truth is most important. Through that there could be peace.

ps. Axe, do not worry there are many sites in internet forexample that tell my sentence above that there is no cure is not true. There been good results with white noise treatment (its simple and can be done by yourself) I didnt yet tried it but I think I will.

Yeah I defintely know what you mean... I've always had that ringing sound, and I'm even able to tell when my neighbour's turned on the TV... (extremely sensitive to high pitched sounds)

THANKFULLY It doesn't hurt when it rings, it just bugs me. Though I definitely agree with your advice, 'cause I do the same; wear ear plugs when you go to concerts!!! Stop caring about things being "cool" or "uncool", this is for your own sake.

I heard if you listen to white noise it helps rid the ringing as long as the white noise is playing. thankfully i havent had it permanent, but i had it in excess of 3 days after a gig which is quite bad. i think its knocked some of the top end of my hearing though. in music we were seeing how higher frequency we could hear and i heard upto about 16kHz which is very low for my age.

I have always had an aquarium in my room for years until my daughter was born two years ago. The sound of the bubbles and the water would drown out the ringing. Now, my two year old just wears me out and I'm out like a light!

that sounds bad i hope u guys feel better, but remember Beethoven played and was still deaf so thats a inspiration for deaf people

Deaf people play by the vibrations each individual note makes, very inspirational.

yeah my eardrums burst when i was like 2 yrs old and have been ringing for the past 16 years. It really sucks when im trying to sleep

best thing to do for tinnitus, watch tv, listen to music, play guitar, anything to really just get your mind concentrated elsewhere. Hope this helps a little bit, tinnitus is the most annoying thing.
