ye thts basicly it, its a chord but notes played at diff times. the notes in a chord always fit a scale, basicly qll ur playing in a major arrpegio is 1,3,5 minor 1,flat3,5, dim arrpeggio 1,flat3,flat5, and so on.

thats sweeping picking when you play notes at a rapid succession.arpeggios can be played slowly to.

1 3 5 is the notes in a major triad.

the 1 is the root of the note, the 3rd is the note of which the tonality (minor or major) is determined, nd the 5th is the notes of which dim, aug or dom chords are. you can always stick a 7th in ther. but to have a chord the least # of notes are those 3. which is wat an arrpegio is, just 1 3 5 played at different spots. its also very cool to throw in other notes into an arrpegio, like if ur playing it over the minor scale, very cool to throw in the minor 7th in ther (flat 7th) sounds very cool.

GMG, Sweeppicking is arpeggios. It's just the modern metal way of saying it.

Like what EMB said.

looking at the notes in the key of C for example:

C = 1
D = 2
E = 3
F = 4
G = 5
A = 6
B = 7

So for the basics, we're using C, E, G (1, 3, 5) Does that make more sense?

...ur adding a 9...idk how to explain tht other then, u add the 9th note of the scale into the chord (hint the 9th is the same as the 2nd!) so when u add9, ur adding the 9th or 2nd note in the scale to where it fits in a chord. same with add7, add11, add13 and al those.

they reason why it is called add9 is because your skipping 7th if you follow the basic building block of harmony(and melody in some cases{i tend to view it in fifths}) which is thirds to get to the 9th it should go 1,3,5,7,9 but add9 has no 7th. so in a sense your get a triad and adding 9 to it. there is no add7 that would just be a ______ 7th chord. and 9 and 2 are two different things they have the same letter name but the 9th is a octave higher, in general terms that is. because if you end up study the guitars octaves(which you should/have to) you'll See it doesn't work so nice

all scales are a form of a arpeggio

You mean; all arpeggios are a form of scales, right?

But it's exactly like he said, when there's an add9 it implies that you just add that ontop of the triad, if it just had a 9 then it would mean there's also a 7th ontop of the 1,3,5 triad.

HeavyGuitar, you should take a look at my lesson on intervals & Compound intervals, that should make it more easier for you to understand.

Yeah, a triad is a 3 note chord. You have much to learn man, you should try and get a decent book if you don't want to pay for a teacher. There's only so much we can do for you online, you should try and find someone who will be able to physically explain things for you.
