Overall, my favorite would be Eddie Hazel of the P. Funk, or maybe Hendrix. Also, Albert King was pretty tight back in the day.

"Were gona do you a number now featuring Randy Rhoads our lead guitarist..." "Mr. Randy Rhooooaaadds!!!" lol i love him, thats from the providence show, ozzy says his name funny. i am very suprised at one thing mr.geoff250999, you put steve gaines, from skynyrd, but not allen collins??? you cant beat randy rhoads as a guitarist, his riffs, his writing, and playing. never will you see such soul put into a guitar. he ws one with his les paul. ("be one with the force...let the force be one with you" lol) RIP Randy Rhoads, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines, Leon Wilkinson, Ronnie Van Zant, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Dimebag Darrell, all great musicians who died before their time.

I saw Albert King in Puistoblues Finland... amazing guitarist.
But what I miss most of these... Stevie Ray Vaughan. (moment of silence)

In terms of the greatest [even though there isn't one] I'd say Rhoads. In terms of who was mourned and most missed by the fans, I'd say Dime.

I put Steve Gaines up there. I think Allen is a great guitarist and one of my biggest influence but I don't think Gaines gets the credit he should so I put his name up there.

Gotta go with Hendrix, the guy was mad (in the Jack Kerouac 'on the road' sense)

Hendrix, in context to his era....shocking!

All of them flat out ripped! All hail the dead.

Chuck from death, is a good reason why we deserve socialized health care. If not socialized, then at least a reasonable alternative.

Yeah, Stevie was definitely a great. But he is now gone as well...

I am sad that albert died, since he was only 69 when he died. I wish he had lived long enough so I could see him. Stevie would still be alive and kickin' now as well.

I want to see BB King, Buddy Guy, and/or Chuck Berry before they pass on. Buddy came to my city recently, but he played at the casino, so I was too young to get in. Chuck plays every month at a restaurant only a few blocks from my house, but, sadly, those are adults only shows as well. I guess I could still get BB, but I'm not sure when he's touring. He's already over 80 years old. :(

ye gaines was great. neither get the respect they deserve.

jimi hendrix was great but as greatest guitarist i can make an argument hes definatly not. simple riffs? yes. simple songs? yes simple solos? yes. great guitarist no doubt. greatEST guitarist i wouldnt say so. he was the first of real rock n roll. with true solos, i dont consider the kinks small solos and chuck berry's solos to be real. the very very early ones, page, hendrix, clapton, have real solos. hendrix was one of the first. i feel though if he had lived to now, he would be no where near what he is thought to be. hed fade out. his stuff is simple yet good. it lasts but not forever, he woulda gone down. randy on the other hand is just genius. i find that with songs and guitarists, i can find somthing where id put in a cool riff they didnt or something extra they didnt, not with randy, everyhting is perfect. if he had lived, he would have been the greatest. even if he went to get a classical degree and taught, (of course id be one of his students... :) he woulda gone back with ozzy (id hope) and make a new album or somebody and make an albume which no one could match. if he were alive i feel metal as we know it would change. i find that rock and metal have drifeted in similarities, in the 80sozzy osbourne could be considered "metal" or "rock" now so called "rock" is more vocals, and **ty guitar pieces if you ask me, and metal is HUGE ass guitar pieces with less vocals, as opposed to them being VERY similar. i feel randy (like later metalish bands like gnr, mettallica, iron maiden) were more towards the rock n roll side of metal, no doubt randy woulda contiuned rock n roll. he didnt seem like the type to go out alone lol.

thats my essay. whatta i get teach?

Randy Rhoads, but only because I couldn't make my mind up from him and so many others on and off the list. I could sit here all day considering so I took my good pick for him anyway.

Cliff should not be in there.

Geez, people really need to understand that a bassist is NOT a guitarist.

And Cobain? Ok, this is just ridiculous.

Almost though. He had cancer the other year. The smoking took its toll.
