@EMB,
My, my, my you've been getting a little cranky lately! Must be that "new school year" pressure! lol
keep that url handy and in a few months when he gives up you can buy the stuff for 20 cents on the dollar. Actually he was the best part of the band! hey, you were no Jimmy Page when you started either.
your just jealous.....haha (sell grammy's vet and you can have that stuff too)

hahah!! Phip you love smokin' trees. Deary me, that cracked me up.

Yeah, EMB, that's what it's like with rich kids. There are awesome ones that do enjoy learning, but some of them just get stuff because they can. I think anyone would to be honest. May not be what we like, but it really can't be helped. Some people are lucky enough to start with a boost.

I'm not fussed though, even though my amp is the smallest thing in the world and am not allowed to use it. I still learn anyway I can. My point is, we don't NEED it to learn and improve. As pretty as they are. The difference between us and those kids is that when we do get them, it'll make even more special - because we worked for it.

@Jazzy,
which reminds me. What do you most enjoy, the keyboard or guitar?
And what guitars do you own (or did you post that in the "guitar thread")?

I play guitar the most, but I find it easier to "see" my way around on the piano. I know more things on the guitar though, scales wise. But I know more classical songs and my compositions on the piano. I definitely love them both. But Guitar would probably be the winner.

I have a Epiphone SG guitar, and a really cheap keyboard (whatever works in the end!) Concertmate 1100. I play Piano at college though, even though I don't take music anymore, they appreciate my ambition and let me play whenever there's no classes on. Which I find really helpful.

Whoa, whoa, slow down! no music? then what's your major, art, engineering, rocket science? I thought your major was music. I'm so confused (get me my meds! Can we stop for ice cream on the way home?) Ok, i feel much better now! So, ok I misunderstood or made a leap somewhere not that it matters. Cust curious but what is your major?

That kid sucks. Haha. I don't blame you for being pissed off... spoiled much?

I am very very VERY sick of seeing YouTube vids of 10 year olds thinking that they are good at guitar... but can only play Crazy Train by Ozzy.... That song is like the easiest "hard" song out there! But yet he fails to play it...

I finished music in college, I got the best grade and before I continue on with it in Uni I've decided to take a year out, learn as much as I can in music on my own so I learn the highest stuff in Uni - my plan is to try and learn the shit the teachers have just learnt, if you get me. Learn as much stuff as I can as young as possible. I want to learn everything there is, and discover even more.

Also during this year out, I'm taking English Literature, Photography, and Graphics in college - may as well learn other stuff while I'm here.

Kodi, that's the way this world is now, they're so ignorant to the true meaning of music, because more and more bands are getting out there while knowing nothing themselves apart from power chords.

What the non musicians like is simplicity, and because they're hearing this simplicity, more and more people think it's the easiest thing in the world to take up as a career, when it really isn't.

In my experience, p.o.s. = piece of sh*t. As in, "My guitar is a p.o.s.".

I don't know what EMB means by it...

hahahah! Love that picture.

Sometimes people aren't really good at writing their own music, yet they're amazing at playing other people's. That's also what some bands do.

HOnestly, you really shouldent be buying a 20$ guitar for a newbie, but then again, no need to buy a 6000$ gibson les paul + MAshal amp for them! God, set them up with a 400$ guitar, thats what was done with me, then again, i learned half on an acoustic
exept mine was 200$

How do you guys know it's his? Maybe his dad was in/still in a fairly sized band, and this kid just puts some stuff on youtube playing it, since it's well... better then beginner stuff.

I learned on an acoustic that I bought from my sister-in-law for $100. That was actually a really good deal, too. Then I spent $700 on an electric about 1.5 years later, that made my amp a jerry-rigged thingamajig that I put together. I have since upgraded. At one point one of my friends was wallowing in self-pity and thought it would be a good idea to try say that I would have no idea what he was going through because I "have everything given to" me. He cited my guitar, saying that "we all" (I don't think there was really a "we") know you (you being me) didn't pay for it. That was easily one of the angriest few seconds of my life. That guitar is my pride and joy and I had to do a lot of shitty stuff to get it (I think I was 14 when I got it, so I couldn't legally be hired by lots of places). The implication that I didn't earn something that meant a lot to me angered me to a point beyond reason, so I would be careful who you accuse of the same thing, EMB. You might be right, though.

you can't blame anything on the kid. if his parents are well off
enough to buy everything for him it's their fault not his. like Veqq
said, for all you know his parents could be really good musicians and
the kid is just playing on their gear.
besides, i think he sounds like he is on his way to becomming a pretty
decent player.

I don't use my amp, as small as it is, I'm not allowed to use it. I don't need an amp. I still learn and can play fine without one. It's not necessary, and honestly it's probably better because then you can improve on your acuracy because it's clean and you can notice your mistakes. Then when you actually use an amp and use distortion, it'll sound even better.

Yeah, I noticed that. It looks nothing like Gibson's logo. Maybe someone sold him a fake?

Don't worry about it, mate. He can have the nicest equipment in the world, but it won't mean a thing if he can't play.

Anyway, just be content with what you have, and pay no mind to what someone has.
