arpeggio

Does an arpeggio have to be played in certain order for example 1st, 3rd, 5th for a major chord, or can it be played in any random order as long as you stay in the same chord? I guess a good example would be the song "Simple man" by skynyrd. The intro is played out of C major, G major, and A minor, but it is just played randomly out of those chords, would it still be an arpeggio?

Yes, an arpeggio is just a chord played piece by piece, rather than as a whole. So you can play it any way you want.

The chords in "Simple Man" are called arpeggiated chords they are just kind of spread out more or less, each note picked out in ascending or descending order. There is no real "rule" on how to arpeggiate a chord. An actual arpeggio would be in order like you mentioned.

1 3 5 is the formula for a major triad which is basically a chord or arpeggio but for minor its root, flatened third, fifth or for diminished its root, minor third, diminished fifth, and there is also augmented which is root, major third, and augmented fifth

There's no real rule on how to play them. I often find cool little bits by randomly picking them.
