Well I give him alot of credit for pushing hiself to fame. I think he has earned everything he has gotten. I truly believe he is in love with music, instead of the fame or money. But maybe I am wrong. Becoming famous as an instrimental guitar player is by far alot harder to do than becoming famous as a lead guitarist or singer. Its something usually unheard of these days. Singers are usualy the most famous person in the band with a few ecceptions, Van Halen, AC/DC and so on. So its safe to say if your famous doing what Joe does, you have done something special and more than likely your music will never die. Joe has alot of wisdom in the music area and I think he is underated.

His music isn't always astonishingly fast, but it's true, he is very melodic in his playing and uses a wide range of modes in his soloing. He can shred but he rarely goes all out shred. He has taught many guitarists as well, such as Steve Vai and Kirk Hammett.

Yeah there are alot faster guitar players out there but speed isnt everything... actually it is only a small part of it. But yes he is over rated I believe... but having said that he is still better than me. P.S. I like the nick.

Yeah speed isn't everything. Amazing guitarists such as Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix proved that you don't have to be fast to be great. As long as you know your stuff, then you are great.

Nah, I'm just kidding!
If I'm being honest I think his music is really starting to go downhill, his last great album was Crystal Planet (my fave) but that was way back in '98! And if you've heard his most recent one, 'Professor Satchafunkilus...', I tell you it was so bad that I bought it, listened to the first track then put it on the shelf and haven't listened since.
I saw him on tour the other week playing in Birmingham, and was really disappointed, my Mum went and two mates who are avid fans as well, and they all felt the same. His playing was incredibly technical and at the end of every song he extended it by about 5 mins to just legato, which bored the shit out of me!
However, I still have massive inspiration from him listening to his older stuff, because it is technical but still sounds like a song, rather than just warm-up exercises. He is also one of the biggest inspirations for me to learn music theory so in-depth, because I can see how he has used it in his own writing. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion dude, and I don't respect you any the less for expressing it.
(Just don't do it again or I will fly to Canada and kick your ass!)

LOL @ THE FIRST POST!!
Hahaha, I actually laughed at that.

And Afro, I guess even all of our favorite guitarists have their downfall at some point. But even if they aren't as good now, they still have old stuff that was good.

all guitarist loose there touch at some point in my oppinion. they may get better at playing the guitar. but they loose that creative touch. Roger Waters Ssid Pink Floyd was a creativly spent group just before he quit the band.
