in my opinion he is the GREATEST guitarist/MUSICIAN of all time. His creativity is way out of this world. And there will never be another like him.

What makes Hendrix so great is that he was not only a great musician/guitarist; however, he was also a great showman. The crowd was entertained by everything he did, guitar or other wise. It is easy to find someone better at guitar or a better showman but not both at the level he was.

Hendrix was a good musician, but his band wasnt very good. His best being the Band Of Gypsies. He wrote some really innovative stuff (Mainly from sweet ass acid trips ((they really do help your playing, believe me)) ) If you listen to a lot of his stuff though you'll notice that he plays all the parts, while his band just follows in awe. Phish is better musically b/c they move as a unit, following eachother down to the very beat of a song. Basically Trey plays a solo, and the pianist is already playing EXACTLY what Trey is playing. But he is a damn legend.

Dude,
the guy transcended his soul thru that guitar,
with the help of his ally,
LSD,
he converted so much energy into his music
and though he's dead
YOU CAN STILL FEEL IT.

THAT'S LIFE AFTER DEATH,
metaphorically.
He was an amazing person,
you can feel it in his vibrations.

Not to mention how experimental he was in his studio.

I love the man.

He was a good "showman"
'cause he was fucking tripping
and LOVED MUSIC

His will withstand time and will always touch the souls of people everywhere. There are many great guitarist out there but few can ever come close to Hendrix. There is only one I ever heard that was on his level and that is Jimmy Page. Both of these guys creativity was beyond their time.

i think really only a true musican can understand the intensity of Mr. Hendrix, the average (none musician) just sees him as another guitarist, they cant see behind what they hear.

Hendrix wasn't only a great musician, he was the first doing what he was doing. THAT is what really makes him great.

He's one of the main reasons I started playing, guitar. Although I'm not creative(Musically), when I listen to him, or guitarists like him, it just makes me go on and explore what more does the guitar have to offer.

do never say you are not creative
hendrix was an awesome musician but he is a legend cause he gave people cool music and a great performance cause there are many great musicians on the undergrounds that might not get to be famous cause they were bad performers when live or lose their oportunities.....
thats what i think

The main harpischord/guitar riff of 'Burning of the Midnight Lamp' is one of the greatest things I've ever heard.

Some of you were saying that Jimi Hendrix was a great showman and stuff but later in his career he would get very frustrated when people would boo him if he tried to just play without setting something on fire. A lot of people didn't take him seriously and just came to concerts expecting a good show.

btw when Hendrix played, not only was he talented but I think the best part of his music is that he makes you feel the emotion
my fave overall song is bold as love but the best guitar part i would say would be maybe voodoo child

SRV may be the blues child of JMH, but I've been enjoying his playing much more than JMH.

How about redtrat... if you're classical guitarists or a punk guitarist - then do you *really* need to have such a high opinion of Hendrix?

I'm not saying I don't like Hendrix, but you're opinions are... flawed, and you go about posting in a weird way.

Jimi was without doubt a great guitarist, but I can remember others (perhaps because I myself was a teenager at the time in question) who would also make you sit up and take notice ie Jeff Beck, Jimmy page and last but by no means least, Richie Blackmore. He was turning feedback into an art form while J.H.was still jumping out of 'planes!
