So I am gonna sell this Kustom Amp (bass and guitar amp) and my line 6 Spider iii, and My Les Paul Special II and my Ibanez Gio GSZ120.
I hope to make at least 400 Canadian Dollars from it all, and I want to get a cab so I can hear what my DigiTech RP70 sounds like.
What are some good under 400 dollar cabs I should look into? How many watts?
Gear: DigiTech Rp70 Guitar Processor, Godin Exit 22 that'll be plugged into it. |

On a stack you have the head and the cab. The cab is the box and speakers. I don't have any experience with this, combos are all I have played. |

Well, if you have a combo then set the gain to 0 and you'll be fine, the only distortion will come from the RP70. |

You're still going to want a head anyway. Try a cheap, small valve head like a Epiphone Valve Junior which you can use your digitech on. |

Cab = Cabinet...
You plug the head into the cab right, then like, the pedal into the head?
I have NO experience with these so I don't know anything about this. But I've read reviews about the Epiphone Valve Junior, sounds good. http://ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/guitar_amplifiers/epiphone/valve_junior_head/index.html |

Guitarboy: yeah, that's right. I suggested a cheap valve amp because it'll get you a a fuller tone and even though the wattage is small they're still loud. Have a look round though. |

@LP... LOL,nice.
Well I think I am going to the shop today to MAYBE get rid of some gear. I will see if they have any of those Valve Juniors, they don't sound too bad for a 5 watter. I'll let you know what I think of it later if I go.
Thanks. |

I don't know if they are better I think they are more of a big gig amp, but I guess some stacks are as small as 5 watts so I don't know. I think Doz uses a stack so he could tell you more I have only played through combo amps (the head and the speakers in the same box) so I really can't give an informed opinion. |

Well, I bought my Epiphone Valve Junior head, AND I came home also with the 70 Watt Cabinet to go with it! I traded in my Line 6 and my Epiphone Les Paul Special II. I'd say it was well worth it.
The gear sounds great, and I would like to thank Doz for recommending to me the Valve Junior Head, great stuff!
NOW:
In the summer time I am going to look into a new distortion pedal, I want one that I can play punk rock good with. Any suggestions people? |

Well, as Les_Paul said, they are usually bigger, and therefore, louder.
But another good thing is that you can mix and match heads and cabs to get a sound that you like. For instance, if you have a Peavy head and cab, but you don't like the sound, you can put a marshall head on the peavy cab to get a different sound. |

They aren't necesserily better, but you get more versatility. You can choose to change cabs without having to change the head, and vice versa... so it might be cheaper for the future when you want an upgrade.
And nice move GuitarBoy, you been running your distortion pedal through it? What cab did you get? |

I have a few questions but I don't want to start a new thread.
-Can you put different tubes in an amp to get a different tone?
-Also how do you know when to change your tubes?
-And do you lose tone as your tubes get older? |

You actually can change the tubes in some amps, I've seen vids on Youtube, people have modded Valve Juniors. The other two W's. I don't know.
And Doz, I don't know what it is aha but I will take a pic and upload it... just a sec... |

It's a pretty sweet set I'd say.

GB: Nice one, the matching cab.
LP: You can put different tubes in for different tone, yeah. You can get better quality tubes aswell. And I've heard that you should easily be able to tell when a tube is going dead but it's a good idea to have your next set ready before - incase one goes at a gig or something.
Generally though... you could get a few years out of tubes, more if you play less and at lower volumes. |

That's right EMB. Better to build on good foundations than be stuck with a weak building. In other words - he can build up on that with pedals and have a good setup.
I suggest getting a cheap EQ to give you a bit of control GB. |

Guys what do you think about a DigiTech Grunge Pedal? I have heard good of them and never played them yet (damn) but I should look into one if I like it, good punk sound I hear?
How are the Boss DS-1 and DS-2 Distortions?
I think Doz is right, just the volume might make it a better amp instead of loading it with a bunch of stuff (effects, channels) that will mess it up in the long run.
I really like this Epiphone setup. Aha Doz, SOOO much better than the Line 6 ;p The RP70 isn't too bad. But I would like to get some more pedals either way. |

@guitarboy: How does that amp work? Does it just play on a clean channel until you play through a pedal?

I'm sorry, it just kinda took me back. I've never met a DRUMMER who didn't know what a cab was, haha. Of course, he would know what it was seeing as we never let him ride to the shows with us!

The amp works great, it's just a normal clean channel until you hook up some pedals to it. One control on the head, which is a volume control. That's all there is, simple as that.
Digitech grunge pedals.... any good?
Might look into one after I test one... |

I played with one a while back when they first came out. I'm not saying they arn't any good but i would up going with something diffrent.
since you are a new ower of a tube amp, there are lots of petals designed for adding OD to tube amps. Like tube screamer, and bad monkey, you might also get some use out of juice box (more designed to work with another OD pedal)

GB: make sure you don't cheap out on the disortion pedal - you want to keep that sounding good. Maybe a tubescreamer like tele suggested - they have a really good rep. |

Maybe a Marshall Shred Master... People always talk about how you can get it to sound like this guy from some band I don't like, but you can pull out the best sounds from everything with that...
They are a bit pricey though... I've played my uncles a few times and it's so nice. I'm going to start hunting soon actually... |

I only put the voume up to like, 1/4 the way up lol but it's pretty loud there... I'd like to hear it cranked but that would not be in the house :P
Tube screamers I hear are really good, how much are they?
What about pedals for shredding?
I am getting into sweep picking and I need something that can sound good... suggestions?
Oh and how do the "o'clocks" work? |

The O'clocks work like a clock, compare a dial to a clock... And thats where you move the dials pointer...
Serriouslly though, go for a Marshall Shred Master. It is by far the greatest pedal ever made for anything that uses distortion, except for Pop-Punk and Grunge... You don't get a buzz from it, you get a change in timber. :)

Oh, obiously. I shoulda known that lol. Just makin' sure.
The Head & Cab were $165.00 a piece. Coming to a total of $372.90 CDN.
10 being the best, I give it a 6. This pedals distortion SUCKS. 10 for the cleans though.
I will see about that shred master, I was gonna ask the same question as Doz, how much?
