The last couple of days I have really been thinking about gibson guitars. I like my Epi LP and I have never been one to go out and buy something because of the name on it (That is my wife)lol, but for some reason I can't get the Gibson Les Paul's out of my mind. Is it really worth the extra money as far as quality, or is it all about the name. I guess my qustion is head to head is the Gibson Les Paul standard really worth $1800 more than the Epi Les Paul standard from a quality stand point?

The high end Gibsons are good. It's the lower end Gibsons that the Epihpones win over. That aside... I don't think the price tag is completely justified - especially that much more money.

Gibson is a great guitar, but before you drop that dime , go to your local guitar store and play it for an hour. it's a different feel all together. not to mention sound. It took me almost 2 months to decide on mine. and ended up getting an Ibanez

Well High end Gibsons sound amazing but think about the other guitars you could buy with the money. You could even buy two decent ones. The best advice I could give is to try it out for a while. Maybe youll get over your crush.

if i was buying now, with my experiance, and i had 2k to spend, id buy like 2 or 3 epis lol not the gibson, i can get 3 guitars 4 price of 1. unless i was gigging like some of u guys, i wouldnt get a gibson, just a waste of money if ur not gigging or dedecated enough to say "i will play the guitar for the rest of my life"

Yea that's the only thing that stopped me from buying one already, just hate to spend that kind of money when I'm just learning. I can't pay for one strait out but my local shop has a financing option, but again having a guitar payment just seems a little much for someone who just plays around the house. So I guess I agree whith EMB.

I bought my LP studio because I was ill (just out of hospital) and not thinking straight! If I'd gone the right way about it and done what Swamplitter said (play it in the store for a while)I'd still have my high end Epi and might well be on my way to affording the best guitar I've ever played--an ESP Viper! (did I just hear a round of applause from Guitar slinger?)
