good trade for my half stack ?

found someone interested in possibly trading a PRS Santana SE
for my AVT150H head & JCM800 4x12 cab
says it's in like new shape. said he paid $1200 for it new and claims
it's been on a wall hanger since he bought it.1st pics look mint but
he's gonna send some higher rez photos today. said he only plays his
main guitar and is in desperate need of a 1/2 stack but has no cash.

not like i even need a 1/2 stack or really play on it very loud.
as a matter of fact, it's really just total ovekill for my needs.
i enjoy playing on my new vox AD30VT just as much.

opinions please.....

If what he says is true, and you want to trade: go for it. Have a look how much what you have goes new, and how much what he has goes new aswell first.

well it sounds like you have some equipment that you dont really need or want anymore. cant think of a better way to get away from something you no longer want than to trade it for something you do want. better than trying to sell for money then using that money to but something else. Just as long as the relative values are right.

I know it's personal choice, but I'd take the Vox over the Marshall any day. Good deal!

when i first started learning to play i thought it would be so cool
to own a marshall stack. which it is by all means very cool. but,it's
so unpractical for me and i rarely get to play it really loud.my kids
get very annoyed when i do. they are alot happier when i play the vox lol.

but the trade didn't fall through,his guitar was a pos literally.....
after i said no he offered to throw in his rocpro half stack lmao.

i do have a few more offers in the works though. one fellow is offering
up a mid 80's fender twin reverb which i would happily trade straight
up for if it's not the red knob series :)

do all twins have the switchable output down to 25W ?

I think its a personal choice.

I have trade a Gibson Copy and a Yamaha 100 watt amp for a TR7 but it needed work but fun as hell to drive.I did some work to it and I think I sold it for 3500 something like that .....Got to love the 80's

well i took the plunge and finally traded it for something.


a 1977 135W silverface ul twin. the tolex is a little rough,but the trader
also threw in enough tolex to re wrap it so it will look clean again.
cab is nice and solid,electronics are in pristine working condition.
i thought the marshall was loud....lmao
this combo has amazing crunch and tone.
since i only paid $300 for the halfstack i can't complain.
i'm looking forward to nice little resto project.

oh, boy that is great amp. I's so jealous.

I used to have play a hot rod deluxe. it was loud and clean and mean when it needed to be.

oh yes all tubes. i finally understand the why everyone wants a tube
amp,as this is my first (big) all tube amp combo. the clean sound
is the most clean i've ever heard period,there is so much crunch to
even satisfy my ac/dc addiction. i even goofed around and played the
intro to helmet's "unsung" and it sounds awesome too lol

i can't wait to try a bunch of pedals and my line 6 pod on it.

this pig has 6 preamp tubes and 4 output tubes
the only problem is it weighs about 85 lbs
thank god it has heavy duty factory casters.

I've never heard the amp - but it sounds good from what you say.

probably not as high gain as you would like Doz being a JCM owner
though i'm sure you would no doubt appreciate it. this is why i'm
looking to find a hicks mender for it so i can get that extra high
gain of the latter tube amps.

i can get just a we bit more than the minimum when it's cranked
on the vibrato channel,boost is enabled,a tad of reverb and high speed
setting but my ears are bleeding at that volume.

i need to find a way to record some sound clips to my pc
is there a poor mans way to do it.. lol



edit - is it true you can just pull output tubes to lower the wattage?

I'm sure I'd appreciate the amp. I'm into stuff an all ends of the spectrum, and I never really push my JCM 900 to it's full gain.

I'm nt sure about the bit in the edit. I wouldn't myself, I'm sure I would have heard something about this kind of thing. Where did you hear that?

i saw it on youtube where the person claims to only have
2 of the 6L6 tubes in and says it's running at 50w
he's playing a gibson melody maker into the amp and the
tone & crunch is really sweet.

i just checked you tube and he posted a reply to my comment
about just pulling tubes and he explains himself a little.
i'll have to call the local tech and see if he knows anything
about doing this. i saw a twin on ebay where the seller had his
tech install a switch so it could only run one output tube at 25w

I wish I could get a hold of Paul Gilberts dad he used to have a small amp shop in Greensburg,and he was tube man new evrything about them and had most of the tubes in stock

i had to see how hard it would be to take the chasis out for when i'm
ready to start the resto. boy this is heavy. i'm guessing the chasis
alone weighs 65lbs. all point to point wiring.
this particular one collectors call the white wire nightmare.i don't
understand why this one gets so much flak as opposed to a blackface twin

hey just be careful touching the electronics and wires. Even when a tube amp is not plugged in and off it still stores lots of current in the capacitors. People have gotten Fuggered up and died working on tube amps.

Yeah, I say let a pro do it.

studied electronics for 2 1/2 years.i can't say i remember everything
i learned,but enough to get by and certainly stay safe. this is very
small compared to what i'm around at work. we have small banks of
capacitors that can cause skin to explode.
