Okay so I watched the halftime show at the superbowl last week right and Tom Petty was performing, how come their guitars had no patch cords ? How the hell do they work ? Yet, they still transmit sound to an amp somehow... care to explain ? |

it's pretty simple but i've never used it. basicly you have wireless unit that plugs into the guitar and another unit that plugs into the amp.

Holy crap !
That's pretty cool, that's like a breakthrough in guitar technology in my opinion.
How long has this been around ? |

Yeah, I sort of want one... but I saw a guitarist in a band use one once and it cut out. Maybe he just had a cheap one. |

Ooh, I thought they were like new like maybe only a few years ago.
That would suck if he was gigging it and it cut. So humiliating... |

wireless systems are the way to go if you're in a gigging band...but dont buy them cheap, because like doz has seen they will cut out every now and again. |

There's nothing wrong with being in a gigging band with guitar leads. Really big bands will use wireless though because they can afford to buy the absolute best. |

How much do you think they range from, GuitarSlinger ?
I agree with tAUG because usually when new technology comes out, it isn't the best and still needs some modifications. Maybe in a few years they will be improved and very great. However, I don't need one right now as I am not in a band, nor do I do gigs :) |

No, I think we're on the same level. Which is why I was thinking they'd been around for quiiiite some time. |

Give it time and they will probably be pretty cheap.
I never knew about this until last week lmao, that's kinda sad.
I thought it was just new, never knew it was like 20 years old... |

Speaking of cutting out and stuff,
Did any bands ever make a major fk up on stage ?
Or like their guitarist walked on his patch cord making it fall out of the guitar ?
That would be sucky... Where can I find a vid of that ? |

Many guitarists, including myself, feed their lead through their guitar strap, meaning that if you were to step on your lead, then it would only tug on the strap, rather than tug out of the socket.
As for wireless, I've never used it and I have never spoken to anyone who uses it, and some of my mates have played some pretty big gigs, so I think that if you can use leads, you should. You can get leads that are 30 ft long, which is plenty long enough to run from one side of the stage to the other! |

I am gonna feed it through the strap right now then. Thanks for the tip.
Mine is only like 10 ft long if that. Which is not very long at all.
But I have a band now with some friends and hopefully we can be going sometime soon. |
