Why do you play the guitar?

Just curious to see what the members here have to say about why they play the guitar. I was recently asked and they were surprised to hear my answer.

I just the instrument and love learning about music and making music. But it's not exclusive to the instrument, I like to play my bass too and will learn piano when I get time to practice and one day will again have my acoustic drum set.

I want to become an inspiration to other people.

It amuses me. I play for myself because I enjoy it. Would I love to get a band together and put out some albums and tour? hell yea, but I'd do It because I want to, and if other people liked my music that's great, but I play and write for my enjoyment.

What DarkRiff said. I play for myself. If other people enjoy it, that's great too. I like to teach too. Not so much about theory but more about the instrument itself. How to physically play, set up, strings, picks, wood, necks and so on. When I played with my brothers a couple of weeks ago my brother asked my why I wasn't in a band. He hadn't seen my play in awhile and said "you got good!". That was nice to hear but I like to write, play, record and listen to myself.

I play to get my emotions flow to another state, being unite with universal melody, express myself with an...aah damn, I play to get laid easier.

Seriously... I use guitar as instrument to get for moments away from everyday livin.

I love being creative. Music has always been my most fluid outlet for that. I enjoy writing and other things for similar reasons as well, but nothing stimulates my brain quite like music.
