Just curious here to see what software people use to:

A) Record the music
B) Create the drums for their music

Thanks!

I use:

Cakewalk Smart Loops & Samples/MIDI Keyboard
EZ Drummer/ Superior Drummer
Toontrack
Drum Tracker

I wish I could play drums myself, but money, time and space always seem to get in the way.

I tried to do a little research really quick and it appears slightly confusing in that, I am unsure if these are all part of one software package (Toontrack) or if they are separate. Are you just essentially using Toontrack?

Toontrack is the company that makes Ez drummer and superior drummer and a few other plug-in type apps

Room, Mics, Drums, Snake, *(Mackie board, outboard comps)** to PreSonus F-Studio's to Cubase 6.5, using a **few (i do most processing in Mix)Waves analog-emulation plugs.

* = IF someone wants to PRINT the (for instance) Snare and/or Kick 'Wet', i will (after explaining it wont hurt, lol)parallel (buss/aux sends)the kick/snare to the outboard board were i can Eq/Comp/limit, whatever it PRE Cubase while also running THE SAME SIGNAL 'dry' to Cubase....Dig?

**as i said "most" in mix ... not ALL, many times to tame a snare (over or under-mic's or both) or to move a Kick away from the overheads without phase problems, i will use (Waves) a CLA 2A, V-Comp,L3LL, or other warm yet semi-transparent comp/limit as part of the signal path ....
BUT
I always always leave the dry sound as a direct print
MOST of this is due to a drummer wanting tio hear his Kick/etc as he hears it in good venues, so its almost a performance related thang, they play better if they think they sound better(wink-nudge)
Still having 2 or 4 Kick/Snare mics "pre-comped" via board and rack mounts is advantageous due to having the same mics printed dry.

one thing i would caution against is OVER-comping, a good 1/2 hr behind the kit (them lol) should ensure that you print the hottest sends w/out any dig/clipping, OVER comping , esp at this early stage takes the "breath" out of drums (gits., bass etc as well) that you will not be able to 'get again' without saying "eerrrr could y'all do that tune again please" (eeeek!!!)

here's a handy tip:
grab one of those (Home Depot) 'laser levels" , ya know? Those thangs that shoot red light inn straight line? (all over xmess tv ad's)
and
for 15 bucks or so you will have a great tool for aiming your dr overheads, etc so that they are all in phase ! :) no-mo sloppy snare bleed when all mics have been red-light-aligned to the millimeter.
Works well on anything were stereo-micing is used, Piano, guitar , whatever.

RAWK!
